Sir Ringo Starr
http://variety.com/2017/music/news/s...ed-1202650275/
This article doesn't mention his lovely voice-overs to the "Thomas The Tank Engine" series, for which he deserves much credit; I didn't like any of the later voice-actors half so much |
Well deserved. In a field where so many 'stars' are lionized over their excesses and shenanigans, Ringo is someone more known for his skill, wit, and generosity. In the 1979 Beatles bio-pic, there is the following exchange between John Lennon and Beatle's manager Brian Epstein:

Congratulations, Sir Ringo... <O> |
I always did get a kick out of seeing his name in the credits when my boys used to watch Thomas save the day on our DVD player... You wouldn't hardly recognize his voice, unless you knew it was him... or were used to the Yellow Submarine cartoons on US TV way back when...
|
I'm glad to hear that you also enjoyed "Thomas" with your boys, beanie... we'll never ever get rid of those DVDs and, on the odd occasion that Lawrence puts one on still, I make sure I sit through it too.
|
This is certainly a different socialisation.. Thomas the Tank is more or less unknwon in non-Uk Europe, and even if it were broadcasted here, it would have received a german dubbing, so his timbre and sound would not be recognized.
But for being one of the Beatles, and his music and films alone, this is well deserved  (If you have any regard for royal awards and titles they themselves invented :O: ) |
Congrats to Ringo!!

They're gonna put me in the movies They're gonna make a big star out of me We'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely And all I gotta do is act naturally Well I'll bet you I'm gonna be a big star Might win an Oscar, you can never tell The movies gonna make me a big star 'Cause I can play the part so well All he had to do was act Naturally The Irony of a man that beat depression drugs and drink |
A thorough gentleman who in the main, avoided a lot of the limelight, preferring to get on with life and peforming for the pleasure and enjoyment of others.
Top man  |
^ Well said...
<O> |
Michael Angelos, another scouser, took over after ringo called it a day on Thomas. He sounded virtually the same, hardly surprisingly, as they both hailed from the same area. Incidentally, I still have my scouse accent after all these years away.
http://www.wirralhistory.com/scouse1.html My compilation of the language. If I were to date this I would say some came from Victorian era, but mostly 50s and 60s, into the 70s. Modern idioms don't seem to travel well. one point that was made online about this. How can He be Sir Ringo Starr, when the name is fictitious. He is Sir Richard Starkey by right? |
I like to listen to Ringo's "gathering of the stars" (aka: Ring and his All-Starr Band) vids on youtube, or every once in a while, I'll catch one on the TV here is the US, like this:
