Kaspersky Free Anti-Virus
This could be good or it could be an ad based load of junk, time will tell.

I would ignore it and bet on F-Secure instead with real-time monitoring and rootkits a much better program than what you suggest had for 10 years always the latest, right now I'm running,F-Secure client security.

Choose your Windows version/OS correctly to get the correct charts. A growing number of experts indeed tend to warn of that Security software can become a threat in itself by now. It needs deep-reaching rights to do its job, so if the guardian protects the doors and windows of an operation system, a hacker may start to bribe the guardian himself to let him in. Thats the risk. Said experts criticise security software makers for just milking customers by keeping an illusion of safety alive. - I say: use a good software suite, but do not behave foolish just becasue you put all your trust into it. Use it - and behave reasonably sceptical when being online nevertheless. Also, standard scurity suites are helpless, apparently, against the latest egnerations of new hackware and infiltration strategies. Combine your full security suite with something like Malwarebyte'S Anti-Malware, or something like that. Lock up your system, turn off active scripting, deinstall Java. Understand that the more comfortable your browsing experience feels, the more endagered your system security is. Adobe has announced that it will kill Flash by the end of 2020. That is ten years too late at minimum. deactivate it already today on your system. Flash always has been nothing else than a wide open barn door for the bad guys. Its not a zoo out there - its a warzone. Do not forget that you most likely run an Android-based device as well. Android is not safe anymore. Secure it. Google Playstore must be counted as compromised. Linux is safer, much safer. But it is not free from any risk. Understand this, and chose your consequences. Adapting your online behaviour is a good start. |
Am I missing something here? Is Kaspersky the same company that has been linked closely to the Russian GRU, FSB and other parts of the Russian intelligence apparatus? Is it really that wise to trust a "free" antivirus with such a questionable pedigree?:

A story about Antivirus I was told by my cousin, who is a kind of a computer guru.
They had, where he was temporary. testet antivirus that you have to pay for and those who was free to use. If I remember what he told me We created a computer virus and installed this on an old computer, thereafter we installed different types of antivirus program both free and those you have to pay for. Every antivirus program, that we installed on the same computer after detected the virus we had created. What we detected was that every one of these free antivirus could erase this computer virus, but not every of those you have to pay for. This was something I was told about 10 years ago. I hope it has changed since then. Markus |
Kaspersky is also working on formally verifiable software (specifically an OS).

The latest on Kaspersky:

Never forget that the most destructive computer virus on your machine is always YOU. Kapersky can't protect you against your own foolish acts and the bad guys are so good at social engineering that an expert is unlikely to know he's been had until the damage is done.
Complete system image backup is your best defense. And the backup should only be connected to your system during backup and restore operations, then immediately disconnected. |
It's funny because Kaspersky-Total-Security-2017 is the best thing that got introduced to me this year but then again as i was randomly reading reviews of the best anti-viruses of the year..it seems to be missing in a lot of lists...i.e this one and this is honestly quite annoying!:Kaleun_Mad:
