Anyone else notice the depths aren't right?
Anyone else notice that the depths represented on the graphics aren't right? Its mainly in shallow water ops. For example, a bottom depth of 300 feet should be about as deep as a sub is long, but its represented as much deeper to the proportion of the submarine than it should be.
Am I the only one that's noticed this? lb |
This is actually a very good point :)

I thought something looked odd....
I guess realistically subs don't really have a lot of room to play with depth wise. |
I suppose this is affected by the selected scale? The default is not 1:1, did anyone test in 1:1?

yes

Haha brilliant :)
You need to raise your download tally ;) |

The depths are correct. Here's a screenshot of a Ropucha (370ft long) sinking in about 400ft deep shallows. Looks alright to me.

Okay, I was one of the ones that thought things looked a bit funny....but after some experimentation I think its pretty close after all.
Follow me here: --I took an image of a 362 foot long LA Class and parked it at 361 feet (as close as I could get) Now the game wont give you a perfect side view for measuring, but if you zoom out a lot you can get close. --The issue is figuring which patch of water is directly "Above" the submarine. its hard to see in a still image, but if you use the mouse to rotate a bit back and forth you will see parts of the surface will shift left, and parts of the surface will shift right.....(still with me?) ---Directly between this is a small patch of water that will seem to hold still, because it is rotating on the same axis that the submarine is....thus is directly "Above" the submarine. ---From there its easy to MS PAINT a copy of the sub...(no photoshop)...and reveal that while not perfect it seems pretty darn close which can maybe be attributed to errors in my method. Totally confused now? I think the effect of the water seeming deeper than it is just an illusion of camera angles and all that. Thoughts? http://i.imgur.com/Ug1ZCQp.jpg |
