silent hunter 3 & 4 get blackscreen in mainmenu when fullscreen enabeled
Hello captains!
Sorry for bringing this up in a new thread, but I can't seem to find any solution to my problem in any other way or form. I've been trying to get silent hunter 3 & 4 to work on my computer various success. The game runs fine at windowed mode, but doesn't seem to want to run in full (the intromovie(s) load up just fine but then ends up with blackscreen in the mainmenu, ). I've been searching the forums high and low in order to solve my problem, but no one seems to have the same problem as me. What I've tried (without success):
I've tried deleting and reinstalling the game on different harddrives, deleting all files associated to silent hunter in both my documents and the hdd and doing a "fresh" install. I've tired to edit the main.cfg file to different resolutions. If anyone got any idea what to try next please help me, Im at my wits end as of now Tedh1 |

I'll ask a question too: Which folder did you install the game(s) in? In other words, what is the "path" to the game? As examples:
C:\ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ common \ SH3... -OR- C:\ Steam \ common \ SH3... |
the latter one, beeing:
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3 |
When that happens to me I have to go to my documents folder and change the main.cfg to turn v-sync on and that fixes it. "Synchronized=Yes"

Seems like your tip did wonders! I can now enjoy Silent Hunte 3&4 in fullscreen! Thank you! |
I had this problem after installing the Windows 10 Creator's Update. SH3 would fire up, play the intro videos, and then I would hear the main menu music but only see a black screen. Setting the synchronization option to "Yes" fixed it!
Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg and set Synchronized=Yes For those interested, I'm also running under Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and with the GWX mod. |
same problem, different platform, different solution?
I am having the same problem, but the simple change to Main.cfg doesn't work for me.
All my efforts end with: the game intro, then the black screen with the music. I've installed only SH3 (no mods) to the default location (previously), and directly off "C:/" (currently). I've changed the settings in Main.cfg on the current location. I'd like to add mods once SH3 standalone works. I have a recently purchased SH3 DVD ver 1.4 (with Gameshadow neutered) windows 10 ver 1703, build 15063.502 (creators update) intel i5-7400 @ 3GHz Ram 8GB NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB I LOVED this game in 2005. I built a PC for it, played it for years, then became a Dad... ANY help would be greatly appreciated. |
Hey,
About that "Black Screen" problem courtesy of the W10 Creators Update... I want to throw out a "thank you very much" to james_nix (for posting this solution), and elameno and tedh1 (for confirming it). Also, I hope stewiebrown found his solution, too! MY PROBLEM: The "Windows 10 Creators Update" caused SH3 to have a black screen after game launches (sound only, no game menu). THE SOLUTION (for me): Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg and set Synchronized=Yes You guys gave me back my favorite game. Much thanks! Sincerely, GaryG OS: WINDOWS 10 HOME 64BIT VER 10.0.15063 BUILD 15063 CPU: INTEL CORE2 QUAD Q9300 @2.5GHZ RAM: 8GB GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 750Ti EXE: C:\SH3\sh3.exe |
