lack of targets
where is best place to find targets? not many in this game. but had a field day inside itoman[okinawa] harbor. hit alot of docks with torps

If you're playing the stock game, finding targets shouldn't be too difficult. I play with the RSRDC/TMO mods, where finding targets can be a real problem.
The Bismarck Sea behind Rabaul and the South China Sea near Cam Ranh Bay seem to be (relatively) reliable. Also: I don't hunt in harbors --- for realism. It just wasn't done. It is hard in the game, very hard, but was even harder in reality and skippers just didn't do it. |
I admit the game is funny sometimes in how targets appear...or don't appear.
I had to quit RSRD personally because in 5 patrols I only sank like one ship. I admire and realize what the author was aiming for and its an amazing undertaking, but personally it just wasn't fun for me. I think the clincher was when I cruised into Tokyo bay and found it completely empty. Kinda spoiled the illusion. Currently I'm running plain TMo currently and the situation is better. I still have only two merchant kills in 6 patrols, but there are plenty of destroyers and other oddities to keep me occupied. I even ran across a fishing boat armed with a 20mm that started taking shots at me. (idiot) Im not sure how to credit an armed fishing boat. An Auxiliary cruiser? A Q-Sampan? lol :haha: |
For early war, Asiatic Campaign, the northern mouth of the Makassar Strait & North East of Rabaul in Bismarck Sea.
These are the two hunting grounds I find myself returning to when I'm cut loose to hunt. Once you get your radar, the world opens up but early on I like to find a good fishing hole and let them come to me. :ping: |

July of '42 I am finding The Makassar Strait so productive that I am finding it difficult to reach my patrol area without running out of torpedoes :arrgh!: http://i.imgur.com/UKyCrgu.jpg |
