Any plan to set depth/course?
Does anyone know if KillerFish is planning on adding the ability to set a specific course/depth instead of having to stay on the rudder and planes? Many times set the planes to get to periscope depth but I get busy analyzing something else and I find my sub has surfaced (at which point it is destroyed by the enemy).
It would be great to be able to set a specific course and depth. Especially for multi-tasking skippers like myself. |
Based on what is posted over in Steam discussion groups (see sticky thread called "Bugs, Fixed and Requested Features List"), a developer stated a "proposed new feature" is "Optional sim-like navigation commands".
Now, I suppose that just means they are aware of the request and not actually working on it at this point - but I see this as positive since there are only a handful of items on the "proposed" list. |
Until I have a simple (sh4) type stearing /depth control I am watching Capt turkey video's...And doing simple test missions...

I don't mind adjusting the planes and ballast because when a torpedo is chasing, I change things up pretty quickly and I think the whole idea is not as modable.
But when I do make a change, someone telling me what I did just seems to increase the immersion. I like a verbal crew. |
It weirded me out at first but I've kind of come around to the manual controls. When you're dodging four torpedoes you really have to fly your ship manually.
I would love a come to periscope depth button though. |
Yeah, more general commands will be useful in calm, pre-combat stages, but in the heat of battle and with torpedoes on my tail, I'll most likely switch back to direct controls.
As an aside, I've also come to realize general commands might lack precision. There's several ways to reach a certain depth or course, as many as there's combinations of planes/ballast/rudder graduations. I wonder how the automatic system will tackle that. |
I simply want a key bind and a 3 digit for setting depth and direction. Like in Red Storm Rising.

I agree. It's not only the most "elegant" way of ordering depth/course but I also find it more immersive then DW/SH styles. |
welcome aboard!

I'd like that
That kind of control would be a welcome addition, but I would still want to keep the current control ability.

I second this request. So much effort goes into moving to periscope depth I just give up sometimes and stay deep... It's not reasonable from a gameplay point of view to invest so much input energy into performing what essentially should be a single, simple task.
We play the ship commander in this game, and yet this action makes us the depth control operator in a full time job. This is just unreasonable. |
Hear, HEAR!

oh darn you actually have to drive your sub instead of clicking a button...
I for one like the manual controls. |

As a means of taking control yourself if you want to, sure. But not everyone has the presence of mind to juggle that many things at once in the midst of a complex ASW/ASUW problem. Things like the USS MONTPELIER collision a few years ago happen because of things like that. The ability to give an order for course, depth, and ESPECIALLY speeds other than the normal bells would be fantastic. Honestly, I'm surprised that nobody had brought up how we've been handcuffed by the speed system. If I want 12 knots, I'm screwed. If I want two knots, I'm screwed. There are times I DON'T want a standard bell speed, thank you. |
I would like to keep control as it is. In addition, a command line for manual input of course and depth would be absolutely ingenious. (As in RSR ;-):yep:
