Aaand the Darwin award of 2017 goes to...

... Mr. Ruiz of Minnesota, congratulations! :yeah:

Honorable mention goes to Ms. Perez, as without her stupidity and absurd level of irresponsibility, Mr. Ruiz would not have earned this special award for sure, so congratulations to both.

:k_confused:

Be hard to top that

Nippelspanner 06-29-17 03:23 PM

Yeah, that's why I immediately declared it the winner of 2017.
I doubt anyone will object?

I mean, all snarkyness aside, it is tragic, but...it also is, in all honesty: Good riddance. We should not protect everyone from his self-made demise, I believe. Nature has its ways... we should respect that.

Gargamel 06-29-17 05:08 PM

This blew my mind when I saw this this morning.

First off, I started to feel old when I realized people of this age might have actually not watched Mythbusters. Then again, anybody who tries this probably never had an inclination to turn on the Discovery channel. But they proved this false (that a book will stop a bullet) a long time ago.

Secondly. WHO DOESN'T TEST THIS OUT FIRST!?!?

Thirdly. Use a .22, NOT A FRIGGIN DESERT EAGLE.

people with an active Imagination and lots of time on their hands are very dangerous.:doh:

They did it too late - the girl already is second time pregnant. Probabbly from Ruiz, I assume. The genes already have been given to a next generation. To prevent that is what the Darwin Award originally is about. Therefore the candidate must be disqualified from the list of possible laureates.

19 years, and already for the second time pregant. She really cannot be too witty.

Well, getting pregnant young and mostly accidental is not exactly rare in the United States (leading, I presume), and many other western countries.

But that aside, your assumption about the Darwin Awards purpose is correct.
The German definition (wiki) did not mention that, the English one explains it better, and it makes sense in the context of Darwin/genes, etc.

I hereby declare my resignation from the Darwin Award jury for this year. :D

Eichhörnchen 06-30-17 12:26 AM

That's a good point: those genes are already out there and they'll be sitting behind the wheel of a car a few years from now...

Catfish 06-30-17 04:05 AM

^ But maybe, just maybe... there will be a similar Youtube action in a few years, and the problem will be solved by themselves.

Platapus 06-30-17 07:08 AM

The problem is that they have already propagated.

Darwin awards don't help our society unless they can be awarded before propagation.

But seriously, I do feel for the children. Father dead, Mother in the slam all over something as stupid as social media.

I really hate social media... But honestly, this is not anyone's fault except these two idiots.

Catfish 06-30-17 07:16 AM

True.

I still wonder why Faceboo etc. are called "social media". It is a meeting place for trying and failing to show off, in how far is this "social". Once you found old friends you better use E-Mail.

I use it very sparsely, and apart from Subsim and one or two other sites i find it a complete waste of time. And the programming is not good or logical either, let alone they use all you post there for profiling.

Onkel Neal 06-30-17 07:44 AM

I just wonder: where did they get a Desert Eagle .50 ? Did one of them buy it? Legally? These things cost $1600+ Was it someone else's firearm?

I read the police collected the gun in yard, really wonderful place to leave a dangerous weapon.

I know, we may never learn the answers to these kind of questions, news journalism rarely investigates stories.:hmph:

Don't feel too bad for the kids. Now they got a chance to get away from all that stupid.

Aktungbby 06-30-17 08:59 AM

The nature of a Desert Eagle .50
