Silent Hunter 5 is it worth it

Hello Folks,
I've been lurking in some spots in the forum here and the other Silent Hunter games seem promising. While 4 is good, played it at a friend's PC, I heard a lot of negative things about 5.
So my question is, is it worth it?
And if it is, should I order the Disk version or a download version?

It will depend on what you are looking for.
If you are looking for a big hardcore sim, then pass over it and get the 3.

Though you might try to give a shot at the mod Wolves of steel.

As for me, I begun the serie and the genre on the V.
And I'm in for the History, the (limited) roleplay, and the immersion.
I play a lot of simulation, but I am not a hardcore simulationist. On plane sim I leave the engine management out (ecxept for overheat), for exemple.

Here, I am playing with limited c02 and such, but I do not calculate my own navigation or topedoes course (that's what my crew is there for...or so I justify myself...).

And yet I very much enjoy the game.
Besides, you will find here a very helpful community and plenty of mods to tailor the game according to your tastes.

So I would say give it a try. But not through the steam version.

Hi cm
Think of it this way.
If you buy the dvd you actually own something.
Easier to install including German voices and unlikely to have a corrupt installation.
The Steam download is not compatible with the essential TDW Generic File Patcher application that SH5 needs so Steam is a no,no.
The TWOS mega mod is a whole new experience for SH5 gamers, highly recommended and 99.99% unbreakable, no ctd's.

On the contrary, the geekiest stuff ever produced for SH series are exclusively part of SH5 (TWoS) like optional TDW's Real-Real navigation with sextant, fully functional SkyBaron's naval M4 Enigma machine ect... SO if you want hardcore sim you should go for modded SH5 (properly, of course) . If you want your sim a bit more "light", then go for SH3...:yep:

Haha, my apologies, then.:Kaleun_Cheers:
I did not yet play the 3rd so I don't know about it.
But yes, I find the Vth very enjoyable. And there is indeed a huge variety of mod adding quite a bit of everything.

Now that's a lot of feedback.
Thanks a lot! I'll get the game one day.
I just wanted to hear the opinion of the experts.

That was what I wanted to know. I like to own something, that's why I have all the 3 Stalker games sitting on board so I can look at them and install them again whenever I want without internet. And I wanted to be sure which version is the most stabile.
