Help
I have SH4 on steam with the Uboat missions pack and no other mods as i i haven't figured that part out yet. It was working all good up until i got to May 44 when i came across a task force that was 4 destroyers when i put my periscope up there where literally thousands of them ??? since then my game started crashing. I started new missions uboat and normal SH4 missions it is now jumping and i cant compress time past 500 without the game crashing. I have deleted all my saves and uninstalled and reinstalled the game but still have the same problem.
Does any one have any ideas ?? Jake :Kaleun_Wink: |
Welcome to Subsim, Jake! We on the Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate (FOTRSU) team have been wrestling with exactly that phenomenon for six months. At first we thought it was something in our mod. Then we found it in the stock game.
The good thing I can tell you is that the problem is somewhat rare. For some reason we don't fully understand, the game suddenly fills the water around you with over a hundred destroyers in a huge formation. The quantity of data your computer is handling is way more than the game ever anticipated and usually your game freezes or crashes to desktop. Visit the Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate thread in the Mods forum and you can read all about it. It might happen because of a strange interaction between time compression rates and the game engine. Don't even think of increasing TC when you're around the swarm. Using the external camera on them is a sure game killer. Try submerging, turning tail and leaving the area. You might be stuck with quitting and restoring your last game save. Did I say save fairly often? They also seem to happen at specific locations at specific date ranges, especially the last half of 1944. S7rikeback is our guy primarily engaged in destroyer hell research. If you'll PM him he can tell you more than you want to know! |
Are you by the Japanese Islands when that happened Jake463?
Another "bad" spot is between Formosa and Luzon, sometimes Guadalcanal area |
Thanks both for your replies Rockin i have been watching your tutorials on you tube and have them very helpful.
To answer your questions I have quit and deleted saves but even now when i start a new game from 42 but as soon as i get near the Japanese islands it happens again ??? which is really confusing me as the game was working great up until that moment. |
welcome aboard!

There are issues with a few (I think it's like 6 or 7 groups total) in the stock Jap_HarborTraffic file that do not delete, were probably intended to be "docked" but aren't, and are set to just keep "spawning". By the time the mid 44 time comes along, there's usually 30-36 DD running around in a group going North-northeast and another going South-southwest off the eastern coast of Japan. There is another smaller group on the Sea of Japan side, one or two more down by Formosa, and then there are TaskForce file issues down around Guadalcanal toward the Philippines. Nothing major, unless you're within the 20-30 km area of them... I do not understand how some of them occur still... Of course, I don't know how my shoes come untied sometimes either... ahem...:o |

I'm thinking that lurker "fixed" the issue, but I'm not sure. I think Webster did similar in GFO, but I don't remember for certain. I'm also pretty sure that ducimus noodled with Jap_HarborTraffic also... But don't quote me on any of it... in fact, I'm anonymous... no, not ~that~ anonymous, just the one that no one knows... You never saw me... :o The way to check the file is to "Search" in a text editor on "DeleteOnLastWaypoint=False" for each RGG, and make sure it's got a corresponding "DockedShip=True". Unfortunately, the lines are usually separated from each other by about a dozen other lines. You would also want to make sure that "Speed=0.000000". Some of them are "Speed=5.000000", which is the default value.
