Does DVD need to be in the drive to play?

It's been a long time since I played this game, and I can't remember whether the DVD needs to be in the drive to play.

Update: Nope!

If you've got an original install disk, up through v1.3, yes it does have to be installed to play that version. If you've patched it to v1.4, then no. UBM and Gold don't need the disk either.
