I'm having a texture issue.

Hi everyone. I'm trying to get a TMO RSRDC install working. I had it working perfectly a week ago. Then I did a fresh install of SH4 and reloaded the mods. After the fresh install I keep getting all white sub interior and crash to desktops. Sometime just my dials are white. It will sometimes allow me to view the sub interior normally but CTD when changing to bridge or external view.

I have a feeling this is a graphics card issue not a mod issue as I had the mods working previously and my GPU did have a driver update recently.

Any help would be amazing. I am itching to play SH4 TMO RSRDC again.

You've got TMO2.5 & patch, RSRDC and patch, and that's all? Is the mod folder structure correct? Since you did a fresh install of SH4, did you by chance take a snapshot of the fresh install? If so, and with all the mods removed, what does a compare show?

Cobra5150 12-26-16 08:22 PM

I'm using all the current patches for TMO & RSRDC. A compare showed me this.

A:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters Wolves of the Pacific\SI.bin is new!
A:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex\German.dds 12/26/2016 1:29:18 PM no longer exists!
A:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex\German_m.dds 12/26/2016 1:29:18 PM no longer exists!

I am positive that the mod structure is correct. It worked recently and now is completely FUBAR after a new install. Vanilla works fine, but once TMO and RSRDC are activated the sub interior textures are white including order bar dials, which eventually leads to a CTD. I also redownloaded the mods to be sure files were not corrupt.

propbeanie 12-26-16 09:30 PM

TMO has the same non-fatal flaw that FotRS Ultimate had, and that is a rampant or rogue "-remove" call on those two German dds files. If you have a clean stock install on your computer, you can copy those two file back into the correct data / textures / TNormal / tex / folder. If you don't have a clean install, then download the FotRSU_RepairToStock.7z file from

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xotgyee351...oStock.7z?dl=0

and extract and copy those two files from it. That's the 7 files we had issues with, but you only need the two.

As for the SI.bin, I think that file changes every time you play the game, or maybe it's when you go on patrol... ?? Can't remember exactly, but that's probably why it shows as "New".

I would be tempted to uninstall the whole thing again, delete your Save folder in the My Documents area, and re-do it all again. Just be sure your MODS folder structure is correct before you do that. I've messed myself up more than I care to remember by having two too many folders under the MODS folder, and "activating" the folder, instead of the mod itself, especially with patches...

Cobra5150 12-26-16 11:08 PM

just did a fresh install again. Verified everything was as it should be. Once I activated RSRDC I could see the sub interior and all the stations and screen except for the bridge, periscope and external view. When I switched to these latter view I get a CTD.

I restarted the game a few times to try out the various stations and after the fourth restart of the game I get the all white sub interior textures again.

Could this be related to my graphics drivers or something. This all worked flawlessly a week ago.

propbeanie 12-26-16 11:22 PM

I never did RSRDC too much, but I do remember the nVidia cards back when (2007? 8??) had some trouble, some of which is documented in nvidia tweaks to SH3/SH4.... I doubt if that still applies (especially if you have an ATI card... tic).

If you installed a new driver, try to roll that back and see what you get, though I don't know how they'd ruin that in today's "modern" computer world... unless maybe you didn't install DirectX v9 with the game?... but I don't think it'd run past the menu in stock trim without that...

Cobra5150 12-27-16 01:36 AM

things get weird, because I found an old backup SH4 installation from years back that had RSRDC and I copied it into my current game directory and it works flawlessly. I am so confused right now.

Why would a fresh install, with freshly installed mods have this problem? super strange.

propbeanie 12-27-16 06:40 AM

My brain fails me right now, but you could do a "compare" of the folders, and see which file(s) are different. I just can't think of a program to use for that at this moment... there's a few of them out there though. It's apparently not the video driver or card, of course... You did update to UBM, and write-enable SH4.exe? Do you need to use the LAA applet on it on your computer? Is your backup a Steam version?

Cobra5150 12-28-16 04:47 AM

I used LAA, I am using UBM and the version is a steam version. Havent enabled write protection

propbeanie 12-28-16 07:40 AM

Does "Stock" work fine? If so, what happens if you activate the GFO mod?

Also, not "enabling write-protect", just the file's Properties page, General tab for the file, and making sure the "read only" box is cleared, to allow writing to the file for LAA.

UPDATE 2: Having issue on mod 1 (TMO 2.5). Texture issues straight away...
UPDATE: Removed Ralles Modsoup and all seemed to be fine, but moving through compartments made the game CTD. Will try a third reinstall with everything except ralles modsoup and see if that works.

I can tell you that I have the same issue! Haven't fixed it.

Just started trying to get in to sh again but it's painfull... :wah:

Here is my mod soup if that makes you wiser, graphic patch was installed when the problem came up so ignore it's position in the screenshot:

Stock does work fine. Also TMO works fine as well. It's starts to have texture glitches after RSRDC is enabled. Also read only is not checked.

As I said earlier I found an old SH4 back-up install with TMO and RSRDC. I applied that to a fresh steam install, disabled the mods. Did the FOTORS fix to add in the missing files removed by TMO.

Then I re-enabled the mods and added Ralle's Mod soup and a bunch of mods I like and it works PERFECTLY, FLAWLESSLY.

I'm on my 3rd war patrol, having sunk 26,000 tons of merchants in Imperial waters on my 1st and 2nd partols, currently patrolling the Slot in the Solomons during august and september 1942. I encountered one Jap Task Force of 4 Fubuki destroyers headed east to Tulagi. I engaged and sunk one and was depth charged for 45 minutes by the remaining three. I dove to 450 ft and escaped into the morning.

the next day I headed back south west away from Tulagi and bumped into a Task Force of 6 destroyers who engaged me on the surface from 6nm +. I dove and escaped. Then I tracked them east and am now laying in an ambush, with hydrophone contacts, waiting from their return west.

So long story short it works! The mods work. They work great actually. (having a blast, like Aces of the Deep days)

I think omething is not working with the steam download of SH4. I have made sure to install only sh4 Uboat missions as it's the 1.5 version. I had previously installed both SH4 and SH4 UBM as if UBM was an expansion. I think UBM on steam is the complete game patched to 1.5. Nothing worked until I found the old SH4 install and copied the whole thing into the steam version directory. Also I use the executable within the game directory.

Zky 01-04-17 04:32 PM

Thanks for that answer Cobra, I will try to download only the UBM as I have done it the same way you did before downloading both. If that doesn't fix the issue for me I'm out of ideas...

I'm at the point of only applying TMO 2.5 and still have missing textures in Museum with a fresh install...

UPDATE: Actually thought for a second that it fixed it, but no success. Texture issue remains and as soon as I try to stack up my mods more issues occur. I will declare my self defeated after two weeks + of struggle...maybe will go back to the corner I came from SH5...

Can anyone else do a fresh SH4 UBM Steam install and try to run the RSRDC and see if there are similar issues to mine and Zky?

I bought SH4 a long time before I even considered Steam. So I have the standalone version. I can tell you I've modded six or seven Steam games with JSGME and they all worked perfectly.

I can also tell you that the version of SH4 I've played most is TMO/RSRDC and it's always played perfectly. I have never encountered texture problems like you have.

I recommend you view the entire non-stickied thread Tutorial: Make an SH4 lockbox and independent game installations, as it has the only complete instructions for ensuring you have a totally stock game on Subsim. Now, with Steam, you could just move the /MODS folder to desktop, tell Steam to delete all local files, redownload, install JSGME and Large Address Aware, move the MODS directory back into the main SH4 directory, reinstall the mods with JSGME and you'll be good to go.

Above all do NOT use Webster's instructions on how to get rid of mod soup. His instructions boil down to "delete the hidden scratchpad file and the jsgme.ini file from your MODS folder and you're done." It's the same as saying that if your house is robbed and you have it on surveillance tape, in order to unrob your house all you have to do is erase that tape. Not only will it not unrob your house, you will have erased your only chance to catch the culprit. The scratchpad is JSGME's way of having a record of the "theft" of game files. Erase it and you do nothing that fixes your game. AND you destroy the evidence of what you have to fix. It's a very bad deal pushed for six years by one who does not understand what harm he's done.
