AHOY! and other nautical terms

Hello All! Wolf here, or husheddeath05. I generally go by Wolf all around(online and irl). A few friends put that nick on me in high school and it's stuck ever since. Nigh 30 year! (In your best "pappy" voice).

New to the forums somewhat. I've lurked before, quite some time ago, but never dove in so to speak.

I'm a long time Silent Hunter fan, and I've recently decided to re-install and check some things out.

I see there are some mega mod packs on here that are years in the making. Which is quite promising.

I'm not quite sure where to start. It appears that the majority are German-centric. TBH, I was a big fan of 4, where I got to be a good old red blooded american. Please, no offense intended toward other nationalities, it's just that... well, I'm American. So...

However, I was quite let down at the shoddy workmanship of the original game devs. It seems that SH3 was the most stable as they come. 4 and 5 were pretty good let-downs in the bug department.

Anywho, I'm happy to take some recommendations if anyone has them. I still have my 3, 4, and 5 discs (cd's no less... what a marvelously old technology...). I can't seem to find my 1 and 2, but that's no matter, I doubt they'd even run.

In any case, I digress. Hello all! And thanks for creating a community that I may become part of!

Regards,
Wolf

Welcome Aboard! :sunny:
Yes, most of the mods are geared toward SH3, which is purely German u-boats. That's because it was the first to incorporate most of the features found in the later versions, and was original, new, unique and entertaining. Though the newer versions incorporate many of the same features they suffered in following what had already been done.

That said, there is much hope. SH4 has several mod packs, starting with GFO, which stands for Game Fixes Only. And it does fix most of the problems. Other supermods build on that concept, fixing problems but also adding new features as well. Just check the SH4 forums and ask questions there. You should get all the answers you need.

Anything else you want to know or discuss, we have forums for, and people willing to help where they can.

I still play using my discs (never game online) and enjoy SH3 the most by far.

Welcome aboard, buddy :)

Welcome to Subsim. Nice Introduction as well. :sunny:

Like you, Eichhörnchen and many of us in the Forum, we still enjoy SH3. Sailor Steve touched on the Mods available for SH4 to fix the " bugs " that are found.

Forum member Rockin Robbins has been doing some work with SH4 as well. A number of Forum members have also found SH5 to be worth playing once the " bugs " were also straightened out and there are Mods for it as well.

Read through the forum under the headings for SH3,4 and 5 and feel free to ask any questions that may come up. Chances are, forum members have had the same questions and had them answered. Forum members are there to help.

YouTube videos can also demonstrate various mods in a tangible way.

Enjoy your time here and Happy Hunting.
