One cylinder, double the mileage
An Israeli company has come up with a new and efficient engine design http://www.nextbigfuture.com/2016/10...es-claims.html

This opens lots of possibilities if pared with Electric hybrid cars.

Especially a gas (or perhaps diesel) electric series hybrid. That's what I am looking forward to. |
Any improvement in this respect is certainly good, however..
"According to the firm, the engine can allow cars to travel more than 1,600 kilometers (990 miles) on a single tank of fuel, more than double current distances." I already get 1500 km with with my fuel tank (60 litres) of my 30 years old 4-cylinder Diesel engine. I can even get more if i drive reluctantly, best was 3,8 liters for a hundred km. |
If the cost to the consumer is kept as low as stated and not hiked up by the manufacturer then it has to be a win win situation.

I'm going to call this, not because I wish them ill, but over the last 45 years I've seen a lot of claims like this. There was the Smokey Yunick's Hot-Vapor engine engine, the 400 mpg carburetor sitting on a shelf somewhere in the bowels of GM, the magical 2-stroke with valves, and on and on. I accept someone may come along and increase the efficiency of an internal combustion engine and produce better numbers, but without some new tech breakthrough, it will be incremental, not revolutionary. Anyway, just my 2 cents....:03:

I see to recall an episode of the Simpsons where I guy was selling a miracle carburetor at a trade fair booth. A couple oil goons come along and quickly replaced him with--
