Leader of Germany's liberal party compares Turkey coup reaction to Nazis

Quote:

The leader of Germany's liberal Free Democrats (FDP) likened Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's purge of state institutions to the actions of the Nazi party in the 1930s in comments published on Sunday.

FDP leader Christian Lindner said he saw parallels between Erdogan's behavior and aftermath of the Reichstag fire in 1933 portrayed by the Nazis as a Communist plot against the government and used by Adolf Hitler to justify massively curtailing civil liberties.

"We are experiencing a coup d'etat from above like in 1933 after the Reichstag fire. He is building an authoritarian regime tailored solely to himself," Lindner told the Bild am Sonntag.

I must say my initial thoughts were how similar it was to Stalin's purges but then again, pretty much all despots have done the same skit. Pol Pot too would have nodded in acknowledgement over how Erdogan soon targeted the academia. He really layed down the foundations for conspiracy theories on how he had orchestraded the whole thing. That being true or false, he sure didn't do much to prove those theories wrong.

Actually that's what pretty much everyone thought but no one dared to say out loud because we need our "Ally and Friend" because we're unable to protect our own borders.:/\\!!
The Austrians are finally getting it and I hope the rest of Europe will follow but I won't hold my breath.:-?
