Hiroshima
So I've been given my orders to go and take some happy snaps of Hiroshima Harbour....... Pretty sure the Chief hates me!
I've been studying the map and there appears to be absolutely no easy way to get there. Each approach looks to be laced with harbours and no doubt bunkers etc. I've been thinking of attempting to sneak through the islands just north of Taiwan into the East China Sea, then up through the Korea Straight and trying to slip in through the back door so to speak. With a bit of luck, a pea souper to accompany me into Hiroshima Bay, then wait patiently outside for me to do the deed then "escort" me back out again! Did make me curious though, what route do others take into Hiroshima? Is sneaking into the area submerged an option? Or is it too shallow? |
It's never easy. Go in when it's dark, find a deep spot, lay low in the daylight. Surface again at dark, charge batteries and stay at least 8 miles from the coasts.
You may have to waste a few torps on some pesky DD's. I've sank some and damaged some.. Damaged DD's seem to run home to Mama. Good luck. PS: in another thread here, someone said it's OK to save submerged near targets, etc. Save early, save often. It's takes a while to get in & out of the harbor. |
I've saved submerged in SH4 and had ALMOST no problems.
I saved in water about 100-120ft deep, and all was good, saved in shallow water just deep enough to get to periscope depth (I was actually 54ft deep, not 60ft) and upon reloading I had some minor hull damage and some internal systems were damaged. Ships may also move slightly when you load, I sank one, went deeper into the harbor, then saved, went to bed, and finished it over the next day and the ship was in the middle of town(next to the harbor) after several save/loads... use caution. If you can let it sit idle (with game paused) while you are not playing, might help with that, so you are not saving/loading as much. I should point out that in SH4 I CAN save on the surface, but SH3 I could ONLY save submerged, which "encouraged" harbor raids. Then again, running linux changes a few rules... Barracuda |
As I see it you only got 2 choices depending how brave you are from the west nw very shallow waters around 40ft if I remember from the south (obvious choice) dd patrols, sub hunters, etc (depending what mod your playing) there is a gap were were you can sail through about 6km wide with bunkers either side with dds and sub hunters get through them as I recall you got targets gallor including a carrier and a BB ship depending when you go in and don't forget you also got convoys going in and out personally I would scub the mission go in there a do a recon take out the big targets your asking for it especially if a convoy or a TF is sailing in you got no were to hide.
