Crazy Social Experiment...
Hey all, finally showing my ugly mug for the first time in some-odd number of months.
Just watched a video today of someone in New York City doing a social experiment: on one hand, he was a homeless man begging for money for 'weed, drugs, and alcohol'. A multitude of people stopped and gave him handfuls of cash. On the other hand, he was a homeless man with his daughter. His sign read 'Homeless, Single Father, Please help support family'. For two hours, some thousand or more people walked by and barely even glanced at him. However, at the end of that time period, a young homeless woman walked by with her dog and gave him everything she had earned that day, saying he needed it more than she did. It was extremely moving, and the show of what society is valuing nowadays is disturbing. Link to the video here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ilxjo5RlzFc |
The beggar supporting a habit sounds more creditable perhaps.

Don't know the guy so I can't comment on his actual credibility, but...
I learned to be very suspicious of any videos of this sort. It is easy to manipulate them and it has been proven over and over than people do every sort of video - and lie - only to get clicks, likes and subs. One famous example are 99% of all the "prank channels". "Tear-jerk-material" is very close to second. Not saying this is fake, but it is absolutely possible that it is. |
Give that man some change for honesty.
I agree with what everyone above me added and I add this. Seeing someone with an honest sign about drugs makes someone think ''this guy won't get much, he's an idiot, I'll give him some change'', while seeing someone with a child thinks ''he should get a lot of symphaty from others, he doesn't need my money'' It's not that we value drugs and alchohol more than family, but we make short calculations in our mind how succesefull the beggar would be that day (by either begging or social support). |
Considering these "Social Experiment" videos are made by the same people who used to do pranks, before they realized they need to do something new (perhaps because people started exposing their pranks as fakes), I've got no reason to believe this is real.
These guys are running an extremely well paying business. It is much easier and faster to fake it with actors than film for hours and hope you get good reactions to fill your 5min video. |
I never give, despite the fact there are many people who beg in the UK, it is actually a criminal offence and our welfare state is generous enough to those who make the effort to access it.

Ok this video is not a crazy social experiment but it does show a crazy drive thru manager at Del Taco.
