TMO installation

Sorry for bothering you with all these stupid questions guys, but as I said in another post, I'm just starting to think about Mods.
After reading my way through this forum, TMO seems to be a must have.

Two questions related to that:

1. Apparently I need v1.5 to run it. Well, when I installed SH4, I remember I had patched it, but was it 1.4 or 1.5? No clue. I'm sure this info can be found somewhere, in some file... Any hints? Or should I just patch it again with v1.5, just to be sure?

2. Even after reading a number of threads and the User Manual itself, I'm not quite sure about the installation of TMO. Apparently I should install it when in port, ok. But will I be able to continue my career?
So when I'm in Pearl, I would save, leave the game, install TMO, start the game, load, and be happy?

Many thanks for all your support!

1. Main Menu selection page (Submarine School, American Career... etc). Look in the lower right corner of screen for version installed.

Another way which works with a lot of newer games is to go directly to the game executable file (wherever that might have been installed) and right click that executable file name. A box pops up... select properties at the bottom of the box...another box pops up... select the details tab

note: the desktop shortcut details tab does not give version information.

2. Can't help you with the TMO question...

regards

I would strongly advise against it. The chances are it won't work properly, probably even crashing on loading. The safest way to do it would be to install TMO and start a new career.

If you have a stock install with no mods, copy it off to another location.
Install TMO on that copy.
Now you can play TMO and finish your career.

I used to keep a few different copies of SH4 on my machine. Right now I'm down to just TMO and a stock install.

TMO on v1.5

My understanding is that you need to add TMO 2.5 to SH4 v1.5. That is the edition that contains the U-Boat missions and some fixes not covered by the v1.4 patch. You can get the v1.5 version from Subsim.com for $9.95 at last look, although I did not verify that today. Personally I like TMO, but have mixed feelings about TMO+RSRD. I think I like the higher degree of randomness that TMO alone offers. The RSRD is pretty much predictable, in that if you encounter a certain juicy target, such as two IJN carriers rushing to the Coral Sea in one career, in a subsequent career you will most likely find them in the same place at the same time. That repetitiveness gets to be a little off-putting, especially after multiple careers over a number of years. But, to each his own.

I do recommend the v1.5 update, whether you intend to play the U-Boat missions or not. Good Hunting! :salute:
