Dud Torps
Any Skippers know the percentage of Dud Torpedoes that were carried on US subs during the beginning of the war ? I,ve had a few close shaves with enemy escorts and Destroyers ,and with TMO installed and knowing there are Duds on board I,m not taking on the warships but going deep (must be loosing my nerve ) Anyhow its not in the true USN tradition I am sure, not to send em a fish . What chances do I have of sending one to the bottom ?:hmmm:

High Speed Strike Angle at Target Minimum Angle 0 degrees to 20 degrees - 30% chance Minimum Angle 20 degrees to 45 degrees - 45% chance Minimum Angle 45 degrees to 70 degrees - 75% chance Minimum Angle 70 degrees to 90 degrees - 99% chance Low Speed Strike Angle at Target Duds reduced 10% from above. They will also run at least 9 feet too deep with an 80% chance they will run 12 feet too deep. Dave |

many captains lost jobs due to the intransigence of the commanders at home. they were accused to incompetence. The numbers of dud varied, from one or two to sometimes more. I have no information as to whether apologies were made when the fault was officially found out.
