steam install
When I try and install any of the super mods I get a message that SHIII must be installed somewhere else. Its in steam apps right now.
steam says this. Since Steam relies on the game files residing in the SteamApps folder, your game files cannot be moved outside of this folder. The game files must be in the SteamApps folder in order to function. I know they will function in a steam purchased game, just not sure how. Thanks for any help. |
If the supermod's installer tells you to install the game somewhere else, you can just ignore it. It's most likely complaining because your Steam folder is inside the Program Files (x86) folder and it causes problems because the Windows UAC restricts users other than administrators from doing certain tasks in there. This can cause modding utilities to not work properly.
But you can safely ignore the warning. You can prevent problems by turning off UAC completely, or by running SH3 and any utilities as an administrator. My Steam is installed in Program Files (x86) and all my games are in there as well. I mod them a lot using various modding utilities like JSGME or Nexus Mod Manager etc. and I've never run into any problems because I turned Windows UAC off. |

To turn UAC on or off:
Open User Account Control Settings by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type uac, and then click Change User Account Control settings. Do one of the following: To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click OK. Also, it's possible to install steam games to an alternate directory / HD, so having multiple locations for steam instead of having to move it. I don't have the instructions right now but there's a way inside the game directory (library) to do it within the Steam app I believe. |
For Windows 10 users: click on the Search Windows icon on your task bar (the magnifying glass) and type UAC in the search field. The Change User Account Control Settings app will come up. Click it to open it.
Alternatively you can type Control into the search field and the Control Panel app will show up. It's not visible anywhere by default in Windows 10, but you can pin it to your start menu or task bar once you find it in the search. |

Thanks for the answer, its actually not a warning though. The process stops and takes me back to the program file list. I'll try the UAC though. |
Thanks Jonmar and Siege00 for your answers. :yeah:

I think I might still have the original disk kicking around somewhere. Getting rid of starforce might be the easy way to go. |
I am running Windows 10 with a steam version of SH3 + GWX with no isses so far.

I was running into the same issue while installing LSH. I copied SH3 to a new folder: C:/silenthunter3. Works like a charm. Although I probably wont get steam updates on it anymore
