Baltic 1944-good hunting grounds

After Finland defects to the Allies the Northernmost Finnish ports and Helsinki become great targets of opportunity- they only have the small Vorpostenboot and you only have to put down your periscope and go slow to become completely undetectable. They will circle you but that's basically it. The only real danger is the Finnish JU88's, but they are few and far between
Riga is a nice place to visit after is falls to the Soviets- 2 Chatham troopships and several Russian destroyers- their boilers are cold and the crew appears to be either asleep or on shore leave- easy targets. There is also a Kirov class cruiser at anchor to the NNE of the harbor proper, (2 km maybe ) one magnetic fused torp under her keel and score another one for the U-boats!:haha:

Interesting, I'm not much of a harbor raider myself as doing so is much easier in game than in real life. In all my 1944 careers I prefer to replicate the inshore campaign and stick to British coastal waters trying to pick off single merchants and lone escorts wherever they may present themselves.

I managed a successful raid on Gibralter once. Took my Typ VIIB into the port and managed to get over the sub net. Used all of my torpedos and sank almost every docked merchant. Leaving was a challenge since to get back over the net I had to go decks awash. Whole crew survived with only moderate damage!

I'm actually overdue for another good harbor raid. Might stir the pot at Valletta and see if I survive.
