Advanced TMA
I can get a good solution on a target steady on course and speed. But once torp is launched, all hell breaks loose and the target starts violent evasive maneuvers, my TMA becomes very bad and inaccurate. Any tips on maintaining a good solution on a maneuvering target?

be careful when using this tactic, cause once you ping, everybody in the area knows you're there. |
I assume the target's speed goes to its maximum (or verify with DEMON) and then I take the solution and change the course to approximately the torpedo's course. Wait for some LOBs (lines-of-bearing) to come in and see if it's correct, otherwise, adjust as necessary. If you're going against a CPU, it's a pretty good assumption that they'll run in a straight line. If they end up doing a little maneuvering, at least this method will tell you about how far away they got during their run.
Thank you for the idea! I'm making advanced tutorial videos soon and this is one I'll be sure to cover. |
Since the target is by definition on the bearing line, I make the torpedo follow along it once I notice the target is trying to avoid. (speeding up in DEMON) Unless a decoy fools it (which can happen), it should eventually find it when it is active. If there is a layer which can hide the sound of the target I make sure before firing the torpedo that it's search depth is set to the layer depth.
