Dog recovers - from losing it's face

In case you can't tell from the thread title, this video is pretty graphic, but it's all worth it for the end.

How did it lose it's face and how did they fix it? Can you describe it? I'm afraid to click the link.

It ain't a pretty sight, basically the face from part way up the snout to about a third of the way up the cranium is gone. The cause? Most likely maggots, probably a hefty wound there to begin with, and they got in and exploited it. Poor thing crawled into a hole to die and that's where he was found.

Ah, it's in India...yes, I have a friend in India who has rescued street dogs before, it could well be that this dog had a brick thrown at it or something. Sadly it's a very common thing, but he was lucky enough to find some very special people.

Yeah...if you've not got a strong stomach, I wouldn't recommend clicking the link, suffice to say it's exactly what you would imagine it is, a dog with its face ripped off. How it survived is a key to both the strength of the dog and the care of those who rescued him. He's lost his eyes, but it seems the snout and mouth are still in working order, likewise the ears, so once the skin and that grows back around the face (with a lot of care, attention and cleaning) he can live as normal a life as a blind dog lives. What an amazing recovery.

God bless them.

EDIT: I stand corrected, it looks like his left eye survived! Not sure how good the eyesight is in it, by the end of the video you see a much transformed dog, and it seems the eyesight in his left eye is good. Wow...and he's running around and happy...amazing.

I hope those people get all the money they can raise, between them and that dog, a miracle happened there.

I just sent them a donation, only $7 since that's about all I can spare, but I know how tough of a job that animal welfare groups have in India, and for them to have put in the resources and effort to nurse that dog back to health from that bad a state.
It's the least I could do.

That's a special group of people that care enough to save animals and in this case, a dog. A big salute to them. :salute:

Hopefully that dog will find a home. It seemed pretty happy in the end and I can understand why.

Oberon got it spot on.

Here's a picture of him after his recovery, so you can see how well recovered he is.

On thing I am thinking: maggots only eat foul (rotten) tissue, so the healthy one are not affected. So after they removed the maggots and clean/disinfected the area, healthy tissue can regenerate and the animal lives.

Tis the wifes birthday today and when she returns from her spa I'm going to make it even more special by showing her this video. I'M pretty confident a donation will be forthcoming from the buna household soon after that.
