Any simulator/game like this?

Alright. So I like ships. Mostly passenger liners. Is there any game or simulator where you have to avoid submarines/u-boats torpedoes? Please reply with suggestions!

Kind Regards

Not that I know of, but that would be really cool.

I'm sure with the advances in multi core computers, It's only a matter of time before someone or a company puts together a simulation that will bring to life everything you mentioned and more. I'm sure the results would be even more Immersive that what we have now.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Best regards.

Destroyer Commender had some degree of this kind of action, but do not know how much the A.I of the subs were. I played very little!

Ship Simulator goes some way but not with regards to topedoes etc.

My first thought was also "Destroyer Command", but this is quite old now and I imagined someone else would come up with a more recent iteration, if there is one.

Here's a link to the Wiki description anyway. As you'll see, there was a degree of online sub-surface ship interaction possible with "owners of SH2", so you could find yourself dodging torpedoes, provided you could find some subsimmers to play with. I've had this in my collection for a long time, but with so many other games still waiting for a test-drive, I never got around to playing it; the graphics are of their time... contemporary with SH2, that is.

I don't know whether you get attacked by subs while you're in command of surface vessels in the "Battlestations" games; I'm surprised someone hasn't mentioned these already.

Interesting computer game trivia question... :)

Enigma: Rising Tide comes to my mind. I have played game only briefly, but vaguely remember you were using submarine and antisubmarine tactics and playing many surface and subsurface platforms.

Closest was probably the old game 'Iron Wolves'

Not that I know of, but one company is bringing back old games:http://www.fastcompany.com/3053050/a...-from-the-dead

How one company is bringing old video games back from the dead ...
Night Dive studios got started on a whim, but in less than three years,
it's given dozens of games a second life.
Maybe they could bring back the original Silent Hunter and put in a couple of cruise ships as old troop ships, uh?

Whoa! Thanks all for your replies! I actually own a game where you can control surface ships and avoid torpedoes. :) It's called Battlestations: Midway and the other one is Battlestations: Pacific. Although I prefer Midway, Pacific is newer and allows multiplayer with co-op mode :)

Also, I play Virtual Sailor quite often. Which goes for $30, and boy is THAT worth the price! It has EVERYTHING at sea! Including 3rd party addon support.

So basically, you can make your own ships for it! If you know 3D modeling of course... I use 3ds Max and Maya for that :) I purchased the Cunard Liner RMS Queen Mary as a addon for $15, totally worth it! Here's a screenshot of her in VS! :D

I never heard of this sim... is it available on disc or download only? Great screenshot btw, and can you get the RMS Queen Elizabeth I?

I mentioned the "Battlestations" games in my earlier post but I've not yet got into playing these, so your comments are interesting. I can't imagine anything would top these for realistic graphics.

Hi! Yes, it's available as download only, just search for Virtual Sailor. Vehicle Simulator is being developed by the same man, Ilan Papini. www.hangsim.com ;) each simulator costs $30. Each purchase gives two years of free updates :) so, $30 a year, not too bad is it?

Oh, and about Queen Elizabeth, I'm sure you can. I don't know if anybody has modeled her, though...

"QE1" was always my favourite ocean liner looks-wise, and my most fondly remembered Airfix model, built when I was about 12 years old (this isn't my model).

Wow! Looks nice :D

There was an old game called Wolfpack where you could play either side against the computer.
