Beginner!
 

Been playing SH3 for many years. Just started SH5 this morning and so far can't get out of port..lol. Where are my controls, maps, guages?..haha. What I want to know is...can I set a course by pulling lines across the map, like SH3?

Controls should be on the bottom left corner many of sub controls are on keyboard too. Press F1 to see controls map.
You can draw a course on the map unless you have real navigation mod enabled in that case you must do navigation manually. There is a mod with script that automatically can take you out of port if you are using real navigation mod so that you only deal with navigation on the open sea.

I'm a new boy too and I had the same problem when I tried to start a campaign and had no gauges or anything. Turned out all I had to do was "speak" to the character on the quayside to get my orders, then accept the mission and suddenly I was teleported on board with all gauges showing!

It's easy when you know how...!
