Wayne Rogers, Trapper John on 'M.A.S.H.,' dies at 82

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wayne Rogers, whose Trapper John McIntyre on "M.A.S.H." was among the most beloved characters on one of the most popular shows of all time, died Thursday. Rodgers had acted in a number of short roles before landing the role of Trapper John McIntyre opposite that of Capt Benjamin Franklin ( Hawkeye ) Pierce. Trapper John-Rodgers was only on the series for the first 3 years of it's 11 year run but remains one of it's most popular characters.

The characters of Col. Henry Blake played by McLean Stevenson and Maj. Frank Burns played by Larry Linville , also in the M*A*S*H series passed away in 1996 and 2000 respectively. The interaction of all these characters and the others made the show the benchmark comedy show with which other sitcom's would be measured and judged. The show remains one of the most popular and lives on in reruns.

Wayne Rodgers went on to a successful career outside of acting in money management and investing.

The M*A*S*H series remains one of my all time favorite comedy shows .

Not a good way to start the New Year.

Rest in Peace Wayne and thanks for the laughs.

A great funny role Trapper was, just wished Wayne Rogers went on for a couple more seasons.

Little bit off my radar was M.A.S.H. (see what I did there?) so I wasn't sure who you meant at first; I only saw the occasional episode.

England also had it's share of great comedy. Monty Python, Benny Hill and " As time goes by " comes to mind. As time goes by ran from 1992 to 2002. The series was produced by Theatre of Comedy Entertainment in association with DLT Entertainment Ltd. for the BBC. The series featured performances by Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer in the main roles
