Question: SH5 message and careers locations

Just a quickie - are the SH5 career records stored similarly to the SH3 ones (i.e. as a subset of a folder)?

Secondly (OK, TWO quickies) - is the message file format and location the same?

Many thanks.

I have no experience on SHIII savegames, but yes SH5 saves are a bunch of files within a subfolder of the main savegame folder.

Excellent, thankyou. Same as SH3 so my toolkit will probably work with SH5 as well.

Which toolkit? :)

Radio Traffic Exchange.

Perhaps someone could test it for me.

Sounds very cool.

How does it work exactly? I am not an assiduous player, but maybe if you tell us more about your mod, other SH5 players will give it a try and report back here. :)

Basically, you can receive radio-messages that appear in-game, in other users' games. If you choose to, you can upload your messages. It was originally intended for flotilla members to ease creating forum posts, but also supports a pseudo-flotilla ('RTE') that has no admin but is used for just message exchange (you'll also get messages from any flotillas that mark their messages as 'public').

From: http://www.file-away.co.uk/captainstoolkit.html

The toolkit currently (Version 7) permits you to do the following:-
  • For the Public Radio Text Exchange:-
    • Receive messages from the RTE public flotilla (and for any flotillas that choose to mark their flotilla messages as 'Public')and place them in your in-game messages file (neither user-name nor password required).
    • Complete a template for posting to the public Radio Text Exchange - you will need a name and password to do so.
  • As a flotilla member for a flotilla NOT using the toolkit:-
    • Copy BdU messages from a forum posting and turn them into an in-game radio message.
    • Complete a template for a report to post to a forum via your clipboard (with options to extract relevant information from a game career).
  • As a flotilla member for a flotilla that makes use of the toolkit for sending and receiving messages:-
    • Copy BdU messages from a forum posting and turn them into an in-game radio message.
    • View messages from and to your boat whether or not you choose to download them as in-game messages.
    • Receive flotilla messages and place them in your in-game messages file (neither user-name nor password required)
    • Complete a template for a report to send as a message within the toolkit, to BdU, as well as copying the message to your clipboard for posting to a forum, if necessary.
    • View the current status (vessels sunk and tonnage) of your fellow flotilla members.
  • As a flotilla administrator, perform BdU Management:-
    • View UBoat dates and positions
    • See the last posted message-date, location and in-game date for flotilla boats.
    • Process forum messages from UBoats (that is, create a message for your members as if they were using the tool).
    • Send messages from BdU to a boat (copying to the clipboard for use in a forum, if necessary).
    • View the current status (vessels sunk and tonnage) of your flotilla members.
    • Create new members
    • Create new boats
    • Assign members to boats
    • Update assignments with merchant and warship numbers and tonnage, patrol counts, assignment status (e.g. KIA, Active Duty) and notes for yourself and other administrators (e.g. for Leave of Absence).

Thank you for your explainations Bob :)

I have one last question: is there any chance that your application might corrupt SH5's savegames due to a not perfect correspondence with SHIII-IV format?

Risking their strenuously earned campaign achievements might prevent SH5 players from testing your toolkit on their machine.

:salute:

If one chooses to download messages, then the only thing it touches is the message file - the rest is just use in read-only mode. I have purchased an SH5 DVD so I will test that myself.

Keep us informed, please.
I am sorry I cannot be of much help at this time, but I am curious too to know if your application will work with SH5, and I follow any progress you might make on it with the highest interest. :yep: :salute:
