BELOW - the movie

I saw this movie last night named "Below"
Made in 2002. Story about a fleet boat, WWII of course.
I had never seen it, never even heard of it.
The thing was, I wasn't paying much attention at first and then they went into
a dive and the command sounded right out of the game. I had to look up right away
because I thought for a second that SH4 was playing on my tv. Then when they surfaced
the commands were right from the game and sounded the same.:hmmm:
It made me wonder if SH4 borrowed some sound bites from that movie.
Though I now doubt that.

I won't spill the story but some mighty strange things were going on aboard
that boat.

If this needs to be moved, fine. I posted it here because it's about SH4 in a round about way.

Usually I don't enjoy horror films, although I should bring myself to watch it just for the submarine shots; exteriors & interiors. It does have some positive reviews:
Quote:

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Below_(film)

Reception:
The film gained an approval rating of 63% on Rotten Tomatoes with 43 out of 68 reviews calling it fresh. Reviewers on Metacritic gave a mixed response with a 55% approval rating based on 20 reviews. Entertainment Weekly gave the film a B+ rating, calling it a "handsome, haunting submarine thriller". Edward Guthmann from the San Francisco Chronicle gave a mainly negative review stating that the dialogue was "heavy on sarcasm and puncturing insults, never captures the World War II period but sounds ridiculously anachronistic". Variety Magazine gave the movie a mixed review stating that "the strenuous seriousness the film applies to an idea that is finally silly at its core steadily increases the impression of overwrought artificiality as matters progress".

Maybe someday I'll see it because of your post.... you have my curiosity up now. Thanks.

Happy Hunting!

What supermod or sound mods are you using? It's doubtful the developers would use a scene from a movie, or if they did they would have to include credits, as well as spend a lot of money.

A decent sound mod, on the other hand, doesn't have those problems and most of them use sounds taken from movies, or from real life.

I know of at least one mega mod that uses audio clips from a movie or at least used to. I ended up changing those sounds back to the stock on my install for various unrelated reasons. I won't say which mod or which movie though. It's gone unnoticed for years by anyone who cares so I figure it's best to just let it lie.

It is a good movie. I have also wondered the same thing about the sounds. Now I need to go home and watch it again.....

One of my favorite movies. I too am not a horror movie fan. IMO, this is more of a ghost story than horror story. I really liked the special effects and interior shots of the submarine. I think the audio and visual effects for the depth charging scene are only rivaled by Das Boot.

Yes, I too noticed the crew dialog "similarities". :03:

Steve,
I use Pacific Sound Mod sometimes. Right now I just have TMO2.5 without anything extra. I'm not sure right now what I was using when it came across as the same as the movie.:06:

The film wiki says it was filmed on/aboard the USS Silversides.

EDIT: The exterior scenes were shot on the actual sub, the rest was done in a studio.

Yeah, that makes sense; the actual boat would be too small to film in.
