Sending radio reports, for what?
Are there any reason to send radio reports?
For example if I see a merchant or a warship, is it any good reason to report that back to base with the radio? Also after I sunk a ship, should I report that every time? I know radio signal can expose my position, but lets say I'm safe to send a message, is there any benefits or just for immersion? Will other allied uboats, warships, airplanes that are in reach go after the ships I report? And what is the difference from "report contact" and "send contact report"? Can I radio unarmed merchants to abandon ship before I sink them? |
Fast question, can I sink this two merchants after their radio message
I captured a radio message.
"uboat spotted "coordinates"" It was just a spotted message, not those SSS messages. The uboat they spotted was me. I wonder, am I now allowed to sink them because they sent that message? It's two swedish merchant ships. Both of them sent same message but with slightly different coordinates and just a little time in between. I confirmed the coordinates are me. They are cooperating sending intelligence to the enemy right so I have all right to sink them now if I want to? I'm on the first campaign second mission. We are at war with England now. |
Are there any reason to send radio reports?
I can not 100% confirm this but , it seems to me that sending radio report will slightly increase chances of useful contact report reception in your area. For example if I see a merchant or a warship, is it any good reason to report that back to base with the radio? Also after I sunk a ship, should I report that every time? In this situation, you should use "send contact report" button...Later in the war, this report will have random chance of spawning U-boat wolfpack in your area so you could attack the contact together. Be warn that AI subs are not perfect but if nothing else they can distract escorts :yep:...(if you use TWoS or TDW New IUs) Will other allied uboats, warships, airplanes that are in reach go after the ships I report? I'm not sure but I think the answer is no, although I would be happy if someone could refute my claim... Can I radio unarmed merchants to abandon ship before I sink them? Hehe, no, unfortunately... |

Those are probably neutrals but to make sure you can expose yourself and if those ships take any defensive action, you will know what to do...:yep: EDIT And one more thing, "send contact report" function will only work once you've received "we have convoy in sight" or "unidentified ships spotted" reports from your watch crew |

I will dive up when they are close enough to see me as I dove down when I saw the radio message. I will have calculated solutions for both of them ready if they decide to try anything!:arrgh!: By the way, that wolfpack part sounds amazing! I'm gong to try it in later campaigns. |

this one work only if u have enabled from TDW's generic patcher if u don't have enabled that will not work ! |

Because, I reported the position of those two boats, they were neutral though but I still got a few messages from another uboat! I also had some messages from UbD. It seems like they wanted to attack this neutral convoy with me!? Someone I think it was the other uboat told me to stay in position and in a later message talked about some direction they would attack from and some kind of signal or something. There was some other messages as well but I cannot say what they were out of memory.. but I had already moved far away and I don't think he attacked on his own, as the ships were neutral. My men also spotted a uboat in that area a while after i sent the contact report, but it was to dark to see it for myself. I think that was a wolfpack spawning in on me. All this happened just outside Skagerak. |
It's well known fact in SH games that BdU message should be taken with a "grain of salt".
It's is up to you to decide which ships you'll attack...Note that you will be penalized for neutrals sinking even if BdU tell you to attack or if neutral is caught in some tricky location, like near British coast heading to England... As fas as game is considered, neutral is neutral no mater where did you sink it. But, OHII/TWoS features "fake" neutrals too, so neutral will not always be "neutral"...:O: |
Sooooo.....what is the "Report Contacts" button for?
"Send Contact Report" is what i use for when I spot a convoy......when would one use the other one?? |
Bump! anyone??

I know, reviving an old topic here but.....
When I am out of ammo and before official patrol end, why does BdU not send me a return and rearm message ut keeps insisting I check out contacts reported in my area of operations? Don't they know that if they want to lose a boat that is the fastest way to do it? |
Because BdU does not know his head from his behind.
It would be nice though if such a message could be incorporated but the problem is that a status report has no real content. So the in-game BdU does not know you are all out of ammo.... |
I got bored on a long patrol so decided to answer my own Question.
