On the naming of storms
Does anyone else in the UK feel that giving "storms" (hah!) names is rather pathetic? Not to mention a little insulting for those who live in genuine storm areas.
I used to live in the Outer Hebrides: "Abigail" (spit) barely ruffled one's hair. The latest one, which might blow some leaves around, is being called "Barney". Mind you, when we had "Bawbag" a while back, it at least raised a laugh (try it with a Scottish accent). |
Tomorrow we get the Purple Dinosaur assaulting our fair lands
"I love you, you love me, let's knock down this giant tree..." :) |
Abigail.
A BIG GALE. I love it. |
Yes, sadly, I missed the competition for naming them. Could have had a great deal of fun.

Neal didn't quite make it but Steve did.

They're building this latest one up to be pretty scary. I only hope they don't decide to rename it "Arsewipe" as it heads our way tonight...

Heh!

Jim's bowel basher set to let rip tonight!
Now that is a good name. :) |
Well, it's breezy, I'll give it that...but nothing that spectacular in the annuals of November storms. :ping:

Possibly one of the biggest weather bloomers of all time.

He wasn't wrong though, it wasn't a Hurricane, it had hurricane force winds but there was no eye wall, no hurricane structure, by all meteorological standards it wasn't a hurricane but a very severe and deep low pressure system. Also, directly after he says that there isn't a hurricane coming he states that it is going to get very windy, but then puts those strong winds further south than they actually materialised, which was probably down to the way the models were working at the time.
Of course, the media picked up on him saying no Hurricane and then hurricane-force winds ripping apart south-east England, and Michael Fish would only ever be remembered for one thing... Well, two if you count the magnetic clouds that became non-magnetic... |
Had a couple of hours of battering then half hour rest and now back to the battering.

Gusting up to fifty knots in Dublin and most London airports. Nice day for flying ;)
