Radio Traffic Exchange (real-players' radio traffic)

Is there any interest in having a small program which has real radio traffic to / from BdU from other players of SH3, appear in your own radio messages? (Obviously only if you and they had 'signed up' to a server). Basically, when you save, your radio traffic would be uploaded to a central point: when other users update, the messages would be downloaded and placed in the relevant messages_|en|fr|de|.txt file to be displayed next time the game is loaded, at the appropriate time, etc. The messages would be marked in some way so that you could identify them (e.g. [RL] for real-life, or something).

I've been developing this for flotilla use, but it struck me that non-flotilla people might enjoy that sense of immersion in a 'real' world as well, and a more general program might be of interest (perhaps, also, some flotillas might allow access to their traffic being 'public', perhaps encouraging membership).

Messages can have the captain's name and some other information appended.

If anyone is interested, let me know here (or PM me).

Excellent - I will contact you with the details and the download location once it is ready.

Many thanks.

An interesting idea.:hmmm: I would like to see how it works as I am part of the Wolves at War group.

Acknowledged - a beta version should be available this weeked. I will add you to the list for details.

Thank you!

I was wondering for which flotilla were you doing this as i have joined DEF.

ExFishermanBob 09-10-15 02:47 AM

It was being developed for Lone Wolves (which has just announced that it is closing on Saturday) but would / will work with any flotilla. My idea was to make it work also for people who are not in flotillas, but would like to see 'real' radio traffic from other players both in and out of flotillas.

S!

This is a very interesting idea.....Yes, it would add a real life feeling in the game. I would like to try it!:salute:

Acknowledged. I have to give a technical talk about it this evening, so work is halted while I prepare screen-shots and the like.

I'll fully support this project.

I think it is a great idea. There are things to consider though. What if someone has say 20 different careers that they have been killed or just restarted, how will you somehow cap their contributions to the the en_messages.txt file?

Also, you would only have to allow one user per uboat number. So you don't have two U-9 users posting messages.

Just things to consider.

This idea could easily expand into something much bigger, say seeing AI uboats in positions where other players were. This could be implemented quite easily, to put an AI uboat in a uboat position of a persons save, which has the uboat location. But moving the uboat as the players did would not be possible, at least outside of sh3 multiplayer. But putting stationary uboats shouldn't be a problem.

ExFishermanBob 09-11-15 02:17 AM

Yes, I was thinking that myself: also, that you could have an Allied Naval Command placing convoys, etc.

Limiting the contributions is somthing I have thought about: part of the beta-testing will be seeing how this works.

Just to let you all know, I have not forgotten this, just forgotten how awkward it can be getting python modules installed into Windows...and hence it's taken me a little longer.

HW3 09-16-15 07:42 PM

No problem, I can wait.

Borgneface 09-17-15 09:34 AM

S! I will not comment for I do not really have a clue...LOL
Good luck :salute:
