Getting back into the game

Just reinstalled the game and was wondering what some popular mods were.

I personally recommend the mega mod Wolves of Steel with real navigation. I have not tried the other mega mods so can't say much about them.

Edit: i've now also played around with Sober's mega mod, either one is good.

Wolves of Steel seems to be the least painful way to apply a metric butt-ton of mods to SH5 to make it reasonably playable.

Be aware however that there are still caveats like you have to save and exit the game 200km before getting into port and when leaving port or otherwise you risk a crash to desktop particularly at any kind of time compression.

In fact I get CTDs very frequently regardless.

I've just ordered 16 GB of RAM to upgrade from 6GB to see if it makes any difference in crashes. I doubt it will but one can hope.

I dont think that 16 GB oRAM will help...:hmmm: Maybe your system is overheating or something?
4GB of prehistoric DDR2 and creepy AMD Athlon X2 @ 3GHz...No random CTDs here...:salute: Playing according to my Tips for stable gameplay...

Maybe we don't play the same megamod?:O:

yep 16 gig of ram will only help if said applications are compiled as 64bit or you tend to multitask alot with tons of windows open, video editing etc. Sadly though most Applications/Games have yet to jump to the 64bit bandwagon thus they are 32bit and still with the same 4 gig limitations, Simulators in general would benefit greatly if they went 64bit but unfortunately no one really makes true simulators anymore to take advantage of it.

Still, If played right, SH5 can be more stable then SH3 or 4 in certain situations . People always forget Sober's old "Play it slow with TC low" ..:)[/QUOTE]

well I may be insane but I am one those that play in real time as much as possible. I definitely spend more in real time than I do on TC even during travel situations, but that is when I sleep :P
