Possible Wehrmacht armoured train found?

Gold or no gold, the archaeological implications of this find are quite impressive, hopefully it will be in good condition. :yep:

Been following this for a few days in the papers; seems to ring true. Let's hope it's not mined but I cant believe the Russians didn't grab it all in 70+ years.

they claim to found it inside a tunnelcomplex running deep into the mountains.
the finders claim 10% of the treasure as a findersfee. its believed there is gold and valueable paintings and art on board.
so its getting intresting by the minute

I'll wait and see if the legend becomes a reality.

Nazi teasure? Id wager a good portion was likely once someone else's valuable possesions stolen from them by the Nazi's. I wonder if any attempt will be made to return what was stolen to thier rightful owners. Or if its just going from Nazi goverment stolen treasure to Polish government stolen treasure.

Then again it could be empty or just carrying a load of bricks

Oberon 08-29-15 01:51 PM

Worse still, there is the possibility that the Nazi Gold is...well...tooth fillings... :nope:

If it is treasure though, perhaps Poland will return it when Germany returns Polands treasure... or when Russia returns Poland and Germanys stuff...

Probably best to just give it all to Greece... :dead:

Aktungbby 08-29-15 02:23 PM

It's all Greek to...just about everybody

Turkey actually! Schliemann stole Priam's Treasure it from Anatolia, Turkey to begin with https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...n_treasure.jpgjust to adorn his Greek wife without giving porper credit to English Frank Calvert who actually identified the site of Troy to begin with. "As of January 2010, the return of the "Trojan Hoard" is being blocked by museum directors in Russia. Treaty law notwithstanding!:nope: They are keeping the looted art, they say, as compensation for the destruction of Russian cities and looting of Russian museums by Nazi Germany in World War II. A 1998 Russian law, the Federal Law on Cultural Valuables Displaced to the USSR as a Result of the Second World War and Located on the Territory of the Russian Federation, legalizes the looting in Germany as compensation and prevent Russian authorities from proceeding to restitutions." [wiki] Whether Priam or Putin...nuthin goes outta style: "greed is good" and "war is Hell"!:woot:
Never mind the Ukraine! this really pisses me off!

Rockstar 08-29-15 04:37 PM

If it is of any value The Boys From Brazil or someone somewhere surely knew of it and would have made atleast one attempt in the last seventy years to recover even a portion of it.

Me thinks its just an empty kinda like

At the very least it would be nice to get a preserved armoured train out of it, there must be a fair few things like MG42s and the like on it too, that late in the war perhaps even some StG-44s.

I don't think there's a shortage of German WWII small arms.:hmm2:
The armored train on the other hand could be something.

Something like this?

In reaction to the finding, the World Jewish Congress said on Friday that any valuables found on the train must be returned to their rightful owners.

"To the extent that any items now being discovered in Poland may have been stolen from Jews before they were sent to death ... it is essential that every measure is taken to return the property to its rightful owners or to their heirs," WJC head Robert Singer said in a statement issued in New York.
