SH series on Windows 10 working
Dear mates:
I installed my previously reserved Windows 10, actualizing from Windows 7. SH3, SH4 and SH5 working OK. I didnīt try Dangerous Waters yet. Best regards. Fitzcarraldo :salute: |
I'm actually having trouble, Installed sh3 and saved on my C drive, but when it was done installing it gave me an error message with the code "1628" and when I tried to open sh3, it gave me an error message saying that a file was missing.
|
I don 't have an answer to that. Sorry. My SH3 installation was in my PC before my change to Windows 10. After Windows 10 installed all works fine.
I have the OS in a solid state unit and SH3 in a hard disk. All in the same PC but in different units. Best regards. Fitzcarraldo :salute: |
I tried installing WIN 10 last night, but my computer refused to download it. I'm running WIN 7 on an iMac via Bootcamp. Maybe that's the problem.

I finally installed WIN 10 on my iMac with Bootcamp. It seems to work okay, but doesn recognize my Apple mouse's "wheel", and that makes scrolling and zooming somewhat difficult. I suspect the problem is the wrong driver.

There is a known problem for games running on Windows 8 or 10. If you are having trouble try this.
The solution is to change the SHx.exe properties | Compatibility| tab and check X__'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings' X__'Run as administrator' |
Not trying to upset anyone, feel free to update to Windows 10 if it's something you desire, or need for work, but I'll stick with Windows 7 for now. I'm sure Windows 7 sends information to Microsoft on the regular, as occasionally my HDD lights up for no reason, but Windows 10 just goes way overboard on the amount of information it sends to Microsoft and the potential security issues it introduces in the process for me to consider upgrading.
I know this is kinda hard to read, and there are unnecessary bits of the authors opinion thrown in, but it's the most to the point way I've found to give a good overview of some of the problems I and many others have with the way Windows 10 operates. I posted it as a link because the original image size is gigantic and messes up the forum formatting. http://i.imgur.com/9DoVoix.jpg |
I'm with PETC. I just switched from XP to Windows 7. I am far from considering Windows 10.

I am definitely having trouble with WIN 10. The problem is that I'm running it on an iMac with Bootcamp. All my gear is Apple. The problem apparently is that the Bluetooth driver that worked perfectly well on WIN 7 does not work on WIN 10. That means my Magic Mouse can no longer use its wheel. That is a pain.
In addition, I now can't open any of my saved games. I'm not certain that's a WIN 10 problem, because I had it happen before while running WIN 7. I just REALLY with SH 3 was available for Mac!:/\\!! |
New install of SH III on Win 10
I haven't played for ages and, as I'm on a new PC I treated myself to for my birthday, I've not had Silent Hunter installed before on this machine.
Using the guidelines in this thread - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=212323 I've got the game installed and running at patch level 1.4b. One issue I did have on first start up was an error "Can not initialize 3D " After trying a couple of recommended fixes that didn't work I let Win 10 diagnose the problem - it says run in in WinXP SP3 compatability, and that worked! So I've got the game working, I just need to add a few more patches and mods from the community here and I'll be off! |
Good news, Happy Birthday and Welcome Aboard! :sunny:
