Realism settings not sticking

Before I do a complete reinstall of SH4 and mods is there a way to stop the game from changing the realism settings? For example, I'll set dud torpedoes to off and realistic reload to on before loading a game (and hit save settings), but when I exit the game the settings have been reversed. I have manually edited gameplaysettings.cfg in both data/Cfg/ and Documents/SH4/cfg/ to no avail.

(I wonder if this could be from installing RFB, then uninstalling it and replacing with GFO?)

Maybe. JSGME could do wrong restaurations-it is a not totally secure tool. If you change between supermods I recommend you a complete reinstall of SH4.

Regards.

Are you aware that there are more than one set of realism settings?

One for career, one for general play (missions).

Looks like I fixed it. Will know for sure after I play some more, but the settings didn't change after a short game and save. There are THREE gameplaysettings.cfg in documents/SH4/data/cfg <--one in there
Another in documents/SH4/data/cfg/savegames
And a third in documents/SH4/data/cfg/UPCInitial

There are three different "Game Play Option" menu's for the game. I know, it doesn't make much sense....but that's what you have.

The first is located at the "Main Menu" game screen....under "Options". This option mainly sets your screen graphic settings (resolution etc.). It has other game play options like Auto or Manual targeting but don't rely on them to be used when playing a specific mission or campaign game. Each of those have their own set of options. Maybe it controls the Multi-Player Game Play Options?! I don't play that way, so I don't really know.

If you're playing a Campaign game, either American or German. Your Game Play Options are found by clicking the "Radio" on the left shelf, in the Captain's Office. Do this before leaving port.

If your playing a Single Mission, your Game Play Options are found along the bottom of the screen under the "Realism" menu.

No two are linked to each other, so you have to set your preferences specific to the game your playing.......a Single Mission, or a Campaign.

Be careful changing those options within the files you've discovered. You just need to find the right menu while in-game to make things work as you want.

When ever I change mods I do a complete reinstall every time. I do not think there is an issue with what you are doing but it avoids issues that may crop up from time to time.
