Cuckoo clocks

http://i.imgur.com/cD2SuSG.jpg Anybody got one of these?

My dad brought a cuckoo clock home, I suppose from Germany, when he left the Army. As kids we thought it was a wonder. Now I have one of my own (the old one disappeared when my parents left it with a crooked clock-repairer) and it's a good deal nicer and older than theirs; we bought it around 2000 and were told then it was 100 years old.

Seems most people had a cuckoo clock when I was a kid. Now they sell ugly fake plastic ones with digital sound-effects.

We hear cuckoos around here every Spring; I saw five all at the same time one year, some on a telephone wire while others were flying nearby.

Always wanted to have one, but never got one. Here is difficult to get a good one or even a antique one!

Had one years and years ago, back when we lived in Kent, funny little thing, and quite cute.

Did hear a cuckoo this year as well, never actually seen one though.

Used to have a plastic one with real mechanically generated sound. It was too loud however so it's not been used for 20 years or so.

And I expected you, of all people, to have had an even better one than mine:hmmm:

I think they are more prominent in the south of Germany. I hardly know anyone who has one.

Maybe the missus will come back with one next week... :hmmm:

I have three of them, all broke but they look nice.

My Parents had one when I was growing up.
I don't know what ever happened to it but it was a very nice one.
Not cheap plastic.
I was always fascinated by it and loved the paint on the Bird.

Funny how there are always things your parents had which you still hanker for. They can even be cheap rubbish things: mine had a plastic "Welsh Lady" figure, a tourist gift-shop thing I suppose, but my dad was a Welshman and it had always been there... I wish I had it.
