Underwater Treasure
|
Very nice, very nice indeed. A beautiful world down there, deadly and yet so sublime, taking over that that we have dropped in it.
The Thistlegorm is a good wreck for diving I've heard and has some very interesting cargo on it, AA guns, trucks, motorcycles and two steam locomotives. Here's a nice map someone has made of it: http://followdom.files.wordpress.com...histlegorm.jpg Here's a picture of one of the locomotives, a Stanier 8F: https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5168/5...df28e5cb_b.jpg |

Some awesome pictures in that lot, some great ideas for a diorama :yeah:
|
I remember a 70's issue of National Geographic had an article about Truk Lagoon I found in my dads collection. I just remember being fascinated by it. So much so that I produced a small scale version in the pond in the back yard my mother caught me tossing a toy truck in and made me "salvage" the toys I had already thrown in. Later sometime in the 90's NG did ran an article on Bikini Atoll.
|
Now Bikini Atoll would be well worth investigating. Not too sure of what is still left of the High Seas Fleet at Scapa (at least three battleships and numerous smaller vessels) but that is another place that would be well worth visiting.

This is not underwater treasure, but it is a real concern to a beautiful area. :yep:
Not sure what happened to the oil tanker that was sunk in WWII. These two articles are from 2001: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/1505791.stm Quote:

Fortunately they've been able to drain a fair bit of the oil from the tanks of that tanker, the USS Salvor lead a mission in 2003 to drain the tanks. The oil was subsequently sold for 50c a gallon, re-refined and is back in use today.
The SS Richard Montgomery on the other hand.... http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/...07_640x951.jpg |
Slight Deviation from the OP, but....
The only surviving photo I have of my SCUBA trips... http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps4a6raywm.jpg I need to get back there.... Especially since I have a GoPro now..... |
