Saudi reactors

Even though that Saudi arabia does have a history of operating nuclear reactors, this is something new, something major.

As they are ordering 16 new powerblocks (VVER1200 I guess) for ~20 GW of energy. The price of the contract is ~100b USD.

I wonder if there would be offset agreements from the either side to go with the deal. And I wonder why it happened now.

After a quick google search, I think this is a deal that they did with China back in 2012, aiming to get 16 new reactors online by 2030.
In a way, it's a good thing, more oil for the west (at a price), but since the Saudis are chief backers of Pakistans program, the Indians are going to be annoyed.
Furthermore, with Irans NPP plans, it's probably just the beginning of a nuclear reactor race around the Persian Gulf, which can only end well. :dead:

Well those are the wrong reactors for getting weapons, though they could get enrichment equipment as an offset deal stuff.

BTW what was the topic title edited? Or did I get it wrong somehow?
