Mad Max: Fury Road
 

I just saw this last night in IMAX 3D.

See it, see it, see it. In IMAX / RPX if you can, with 3D too if possible.

For me it combined the best parts from Roadwarrior and Beyond Thunderdome. I at first rejected the need to produce a remake, but this isn't a remake, really. And I think they got it 100% right.

Tis on my wanting to see list.

I'm just glad it doesn't have ol' Mel in it. He was good in the original series... but I can hardly stomach the man any more.

I liked it pretty good job with the concept. They kept what makes Max and the post apocalyptic world interesting without making it seem like dejvu.

I'd say it has the more brutal feel that Road Warrior(Mad Max 2) had with the higher budget that the third film had. Only instead of trying to be a kiddy flick they kept it brutal and over the top. I loved some of the vechiles the War Rig and the double 57 Chevy beast thing where two favorites.

As I had expected it has a good amount of live action stunts and when they used CGI it blends well.

If you like the series espisaclly the first two and wish that the third film had been grittier you'll be most pleased.

Read an article that said most of it was not CGI. Filmed with real vehicles in africa. :D

Not sure what they mean by "most" it certainly had a good amount of real stunts but for example some of the crashes where CGI there's no way to have some of those without killing someone. But they blended it very well the points where they had to use CGI. That's good though as most films everything but the most basic driving is CGI. They did a good job only using it where they had no other way to make the effect work.



In my opinion outstanding special effects and stunts in Fury Road the best I've seen in years. Maybe only Terminator 2 and The Abyss are comparable(meaning in 1991 for T2 and 89 for Abyss at that time it was very impressive I'm old enough to remember T2 espically that really blew !y socks off).

EDIT they probably are comparing the typical CGI in a Hollywood film in that case I'd agree.

I'll see it...But does anyone else think it has become sad that so many movies are being redone? Where has originality gone?

Going to see it tomorrow! Fun fact of the film, the actor portraying the main villain is the same one of the first film -Hugh Keays-Byrne!

Donna, hollywood as a long history of remakes or re-doing the same story/film in the "present day".
We have what 2 versions of Ben-Hurr, with a third one beeing done to be release next year. If one considers the Charlton Heston a master piece/iconic movie, why do a new version?
And the answers are multiple!

A different story for an old franchise is OK. If the story is good why not.

Yes Imortan Joe played Toe Cutter in the original. @ Donna isn't everything to an extent the same story redone when you get down to brass tacks?

For those how have seen it, did they crap it up with special effects?

There's certainly plenty of special effects, but IMO it was all done very tastefully and fitting with the movie's visual style. One thing that's going for this movie very strongly is that Miller hasn't given into a lot of the visual gimmicks you see in movies these days - he's still directing and editing movie in the way he would've done in the 80s. IMO, whatever technical fanciness there is in the movie, it's very much at the service of the film's overall feel. And it doesn't feel anything like the typical effects-laden action film these days. It actually makes a lot of recent blockbusters look quite bad by comparison.

No they did not its got a few CGI bits but they fit and could not have done otherwise. Refer to my earlier post on how well they did the crashes as some had to have been blended (live action\CGI). George Miller has always used live action stunts/effects whenever feasible.

I'll put it this way stupid JJ Ambrams lens flares and that crap there's none of that. Like CCIP said they way they did use CGI how well its done it makes most any modern film look like the contents of an overfilled litter litter box. Basically the effects are done they should be where your not thinking "that was CGI/miniature/".....
