COMSUBPAC chickens out?

I've had another first in this current patrol on DRUM. Arrived in the E. China Sea per orders. Sank two merchantmen, one w/torpedo + gunfire, second w/gunfire alone. Left me w/23 fish. After putting in another two days on station found a fat convoy waddling along. Sent in contact report to Pearl. Headed to intercept position on port bow of convoy. Just prior to submerging COMSUBPAC says it will report this convoy to other boats, I am to break off and return to Pearl at my discretion. Never had this happen so far with 23 fish aboard. Decided my comms were garbled and took four merchants. Then decided my route home is going to lead past the upper reaches of the E. China Sea, SW of Sasebo. On station there now, got some merchies and in return got some close DCs from the escorts who are finally starting to wake up. Broke test depth a little due to flooding but shook them off, came back up to periscope depth and sank one of my tormentors. Am breaking south for a breather, then to start the long trip back. 7 fish left, will probably run across something before leaving Empire waters.:arrgh!:

That's the key right there. They're just hedging their bets. :sunny:

I have had that happen before. I thought something special was on tap but it was a normal return. After that, I started doing what you did. Have not been punished yet so I guess it was alright.:D

Your only disciplined for not sinking ships ... not for disobeying orders.
