Access denied

I am trying to install the XXXX grid for my nav map. I go through the process, and everything is fine until i try to save in note pad. It tells me access denied, and I cannot save. I am running win 8. Any ideas?

bstanko6 04-12-15 12:20 PM

Didn't think of that. Thanks!

If the file it stored inside the Program Files folder somewhere, you can bet on it that Windows is going to complain when you save something as a normal user. It is trying to prevent potential malware investations. But if you start the editing program (could be anything) then Windows wil consider this a legit deliberate action by a person who knows what he's doing.

thanks for the reply, so how do I start this? I mean wht do you do to be considered an administrator to get inside this file? understand that my last computer was XP so I have never dealt with this window system before. I know the file i want to change, I just dont know hwo to go about it as admin. Thank you.

Press the windows key. Go to the search box and type in NOTEPAD. Then right click the notepad and select "Run As Administrator."

Thank you

Zosimus 04-13-15 05:17 PM

Did it work?

desertstriker 04-14-15 02:23 AM

If you are going to be modding a lot I recommend editing the permissions on the entire SH3 folder so you have full control.

bstanko6 04-14-15 04:13 AM

I was able to edit the file. Thank you. But the mod did not work. I will try again.

sublynx 04-14-15 10:17 AM

Did you get an error message?

bstanko6 04-14-15 01:25 PM

No basically, started up notepad as admin, i copied the entire menu_???_??? cant remember the numbers, into the admin notepad, made the adjustments as per the readme for the gridXXXX mod, and then switched the menus out (keeping the old one just in case). no errors, messages, or such, but no XXXX grid on nav map.

desertstriker 04-14-15 10:45 PM

If I remember right it is a pull down so there is a .tga file that needs to be put somewhere likely \Menu\Gui\Layout. Are you using any other mods if so what is your activation order?

bstanko6 04-14-15 11:16 PM

I installed the tga in the right spot. My mods are (in this order):

OLC mkIId gold
da boot clothes

simple right? What would be the problem?

Tycho 04-15-15 06:07 AM

Probably you missed something. Let's try again:

gridXXXX.tga must be in - data/Menu/Gui/Layout/

According to OLC's menu_.ini, Grid XXXX must be [G31 I26]
And is good to change it position, because now is under JonZ draggable chrono.
Try this:

Code:

[G31 I26]
 Name=Grid XXXX
 Type=1031;Stat bmp array
 ItemID=0x31000023
 ParentID=0x31000000
 Pos=90,1666,714,922
 Color=0xFFFFFFFF
 Materials=1
 Display=0;No stretch
 Mat 0=data/Menu/Gui/Layout/gridXXXX.tga
 Crop 0=0,0,1,1
 MatFlags=0x29
 TexFmt=0x9
 Drag=true
 BmpState=1
 NeedFocus=true
 SelOne=true
 IdGroup=0
 StatesColors=0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF

I put it as i20 as per the read me said, there is an i25, I will try that!
