Sound.act

Hello Guys,

Just getting back into SH after quite a hiatus, but for some reason my install isn't cooperating. All is well except the sound.act file. It won't copy from the disk using the original or Uboat expansion disc for some reason. I can't extract it from the cab either.

Would anyone mind uploading their shsound.act from v1.5 for me? Just spent an hour getting my mods in order and the crash on launch is just taunting at this stage!

Did you run it as administrator?

I did. I found the problem regardless. My Anti-Virus blocks/quarantines the file in question. Silent mode was on, so it did so without telling me.

Now to find out the cause of the banding I'm getting on the horizon... Looks like the thing is running at 16 bit colors or something.

You should be able to tell your AV to ignore/trust the file, I don't know if your AV deletes the quarantine vault directly otherwise you can go in to it and set the file in question to trustworthy.

Yeah, once I knew what it was it was easily enough sorted! This banding however. Does anyone have experience with it? The gradient for the sky is non existent, it's just big bars of solid colour. Convinced it's a software thing, rather than a mod combo, because I ran an old install that used to work flawlessly and it had an identical issue.

Mescator, when you recently installed your game did you allow the install wizard to add the DirectX files it prompts? They may be older than the DirectX version you have loaded on your computer, but allowing it to check the installation.....adding as it see's fit has prevented visual issues like the one you're having.

I did, yeah. I'll try reinstall it.

Hello again guys, thought I might necro this rather than starting a new thread. Got everything running finally and during a rather enjoyable patrol last night, I've noticed I have no deck gun noise. All other sounds work great, but my deck gun is silent when firing. The files are all there (P09_$sub_deck_gun), so I'm a bit curious what's happening. Not a big deal since I'm not using it often, but it makes sinking sampans a bit surreal.

Can't find any incidences of it happening from a google search either. Any ideas?

You could try to add a sound Mod to the game (can easily be found in the download section). Use JSGME and test the different versions, if you like one and its working you can leave it running as is.

Be sure to verify the Mod structure after you unzipped it, some have 'optional' Mods inside the main [MOD NAME] folder.
