The Goose and the Dragon

Bobbing on the light swells Hideki Tojo sits in the bow of his flagship gripping a model 99 Arisaka rifle. He scans the horizon surveying his task force. Scattered among the lifeboats, including his own, are twenty sons of Japan. Bits and pieces of the Naga scatter the sea around them. The upper wing of Naga's biplane does it's best to keep two sailors afloat. Hideki can see their sea voyage won't last long on that soggy wing. Such is karma, he tells himself.

Three blinding flashes in the night had ripped the bowl of vegetables with
kare-raisu from his hands. His next conscious moment came as rough hands pulled him over the sideboard of the lifeboat. When he regained his bearings he confiscated the Arisaka rifle off a dazed marine laying at the bottom of the boat.

The sun had risen and revealed his collective fleet. As he gazed across the brightening horizon a dark shape, huge and ominous slid under them. He stood, aimed the rifle at the shadow beneath them and fired. While quickly trying to work the bolt he jammed the action and threw the rifle like a spear into the shape of the shadow. Hideki then sank down on his knees and wondered if his new fleet would make port. Looking up he saw the wing of the bi-plane drop beneath the swells.

Below the Seadragon took no notice. Having struck and survived the hunt afterwards she was pointing toward Brisbane and all the ladies in waiting. The dragon had cooked the goose and was content.
