Question(s) about SH Commander
Ok, so I installed this the other day when I installed GWX 3.0. Mostly, I love it - the ability to start a campaign during any month/ year during the war, ability to have crewmen transfer, etc.
But I have a couple of questions: 1) I have the box checked to "substitute real names for the ships in the patrol log"....my understanding was that this would result in things like "HMS Loch Ness" in the patrol log, but when I look in my patrol logs, I only have things like "Coal Freighter", "Granville Type Freighter", etc. Is there something I'm not doing correctly (FYI, I AM loading SH3 through SHC), or am I misunderstanding what "real names" means? 2) How do you assign quals and medals through SHC? |
1) Commander inserts the names into its own files after the patrol is finished. At the end of each patrol choose 'Click for available actions' at the bottom of Commanders main page. Then choose 'Generate a personnel file'. The names and information will then appear in Commander and in SH3 when you look at the patrol again.
2) Go to the 'Click for available actions'. Choose 'Manage your crew'. You can change their names, either by typing one in or by clicking 'RN'. You can change the rank by clicking a button and drag and drop medals and quals to your heart's content. 3) At the bottom left of that main page is a question mark (?). Click that to bring up the User Guide. Everything you need to know is right there. |
Something still not working
Steve,
Thanks for the help. Still confused on adding quals and medals, though. I tried what the help file says - select a crewman under "Manage crew", then click on and drag/drop medals and quals." But every time I try to drag a medal or a qual symbol, the cursor turns to a null / error sign and I can't actually drop or assign anything in SH Commander. Happens no matter what the officer's rank is. |
It's finicky. You have to kind of drag it around the box area. Sometimes you'll get the null sign but in the right spot it will turn into a little white square. Then you can release it. :sunny:

Also if you're still at sea it won't work it seems.

I would recommend never changing anything while at sea. It's just asking for trouble.

Got it now
Steve, your last message helped - Thanks! - pity the help file didn't seem to say anything about a white box, or couldn't just say "Drag it to the qualifications box and release the mouse button." !

I tried it recently for the first time and it took a moment to dawn on me. |
