NEED HELP WITH AGENT INNSERTION IN CAREER MODE
Hello everyone. I just joined and am happy to be here. I've been an avid sub simmer for more than 30 years, since Silent Service came out for the Commodore 64 system in the early '80's. Yup. I'm that old! I'm also an aficionado of naval and maritime history.
I just started playing SH4 a few days ago, and very immersively. I love the game. Anyway, I started a Career in late 1942 commanding the Gato-class sub USS Barb. I successfully completed my first two patrols, sinking about 48,000 tons of Japanese shipping. My problem is with patrol number three. My mission is to insert an agent into an installation on the island of Honshu with utmost secrecy. I left Pearl and managed to avoid contact with the enemy all the way to Honshu. I arrived near the destination objective "star" on the navigation map. I stayed stopped at periscope depth in deeper water until nightfall. Then i came up to 34 ft with decks awash and proceeded toward the beach on electric motors at 4 knots. I headed for the middle of the "star" and got to within about 300 yards of the beach. I stopped. Nothing happened. I got no message that the agent had taken a raft to the beach and that the mission objective had been completed successfully. I waited. Nothing. Then I changed direction and proceeded to head along the shoreline toward the actual installation. There was a gunboat and a tanker moored to the docks. I crept to within 1500 yards and stopped. Nothing. No dice. No completed mission. I have no idea what the game wants me to do to get the agent ashore.:wah: I mean, I can't go into a slip at the dock and start speaking Japanese to the locals.:03: I would REALLY appreciate some help from any of you who have successfully completed this mission. Thanks very much. Jeff |
Have not played SH4 in awhile but you need to be fully surfaced to do this.
Old Thread Here Welcome to SUBSIM :sunny: |
Hi. Thanks for your reply. I tried fully surfacing after I got very close to the beach. Nothing happened, unfortunately.

I had similar problems landing soldiers on Luzon. (RFB+RSRD), This worked for me.
1. Choose drop off point within 2800 yards of marker. 2. Arrive at drop off point at periscope depth, sub pointed directly towards marker. 3. Stop sub completely (0 knots). The raft goes across the bow and if you're moving forward you'll crash into it. 4. Surface the boat and dialogue box appears. Click on launch raft and watch the fun. If the sea is rough the raft will capsize, but you still get the credit:) It seems one has to surface from periscope depth to trigger the dialogue box. |
Hi. Thanks for the reply. I'll try that. The problem is that the water is shallow where I have to go. I may not be able to get to periscope depth, We'll see.

SEAVIEW ... THERE WAS A GREAT SUBMARINE.
http://www.modelermagic.com/wordpres...Platform-1.jpg http://www.modelermagic.com/wordpres...on-at-dawn.jpg Welcome aboard. I remember those commodore days as well. Like they said all stop, surfaced and then you will get the dialogue box. You should make sure you have the version 1.5 of the game. This way you get to use the best mods. The community has done a great work in making mods that make the immersion more realistic. Trigger Maru Overhaul, Run Silent Run Deep, Operation Monsun, Real Fleet Boats just to name a few are mods that greatly enhance the game play for skippers who want to add more realism to it. There is no manually have to change files for the mods. They are activated by a small program called JSGME. This way you can add and subtract mods easily. Do a search for these mods and more. TMO adds a more realistic boat, Run Silent Run Deep adds a few more tweaks to the boat but a huge boost in historic traffic and naval battles. Like Kurita's Center Force coming up the San Bernardino straights. Real Fleet Boat make the boat more realistic as well. Operation Monsun is great for playing on the German side if you want to add some realism to it. There are many mods that do a great many thing. Some work with each other and some do not. Some have special version like RFB+RSRD and TMO+RSRD so that they work together. Improved Ships Physics 2.15 adds a huge realistic movement to boat concerning its attitude and dynamics in the sea itself. If the waves are slapping at you pretty hard it will move the boat around and off course just like it would in real life. ISP has version for RFB, TMO and combinations of them. If you run mods and have an issue please post your game version as well as the mods you run under JSGME. This will help facilitate quicker and more accurate response to trouble shooting issues. A mod list posted under JSMGE would look like this: Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157 [Z:\Silent-Hunter4\MODS] (Z being the drive I have the game installed onto.) 1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5 1_TMO_25_small_patch RSRDC_TMO_V502 RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1 Improved Ship Physics 2.6_TMO_RSRDC TMO_Visuals_for_RSRDC Fixed_CD_sonar_RSRDC Classe_Balao_CamoTri Pacific Sound Mod Nav Map Make-Over v2.1 NMMO Airbase Add-on NMMO v2.1 Patch 1 with AB NMMO Maps Add-on NMMO Pre Pearl Harbor Career Start Add-on NMMO Reverse Ocean Colors Add-on Less Plankton 1.2 |
BTW was there any way to recover the rafts after they had dropped off the spies/troops/supplies?:hmm2:
|
not really, unless you connect the raft with a button like rescue pilot. Trav and I worked on this long ago and actually got it working where you could do a rescue mission that spawned people in a raft fleeing an island....You rescue them same as you would a pilot...

That sounds like a good idea. That sort of thing makes more sense to me; taking critical personnel off of Corregidor, or other islands. |
