RSRDC question
Hey guys, one question about RSRDC. Does RSRDC include air raids like the american air raids on Kure in 1945 or the japanese air raids on american bases?
|
I am thinking this is a yes but honestly I have not found any documentation that would support my belief. I know some mods do a better job with aircraft and I myself have seen huge air strikes running different mods but I am simply not finding anything in RSRD about the air strikes.

The Japanese aircraft are in the air on the day of the battle of Midway, I've seen them, whether they actually attack the island I do not know.

Cactus Air Force exists
Just today I was looking for the Japanese carrier force in the Coral Sea when radar picked up an unusual number of contacts, so I checked with the binoculars. After a bit of searching I spotted a formation of approximately 20 SDB Dauntless (or Wildcats, a bit difficult to identify from below at long range) doing the same thing. It was pretty impressive, I have to say, but of course that does not mean that air raids independent of naval operations are included.

Another question, are bays (like Brunei bay and cam rahn bay) ever filled with jap ships?

RSRDC adds a number of aircraft. IDK about air attacks on bases. I don't think aircraft, or ships for that matter, will attack buildings or land objects; they don't take damage. lurker put in a couple of ships, Target1 and Target2, in RSRDC. Perhaps, he did this to give them something to attack. |
It includes many historical air raids, but I don't recall any on the home islands, cuz the players don't usually head to those places. Some land air raids in the game, Rabaul, Truk, Solomons, etc., are in the game. Many air raids against jap TF are time rather perfectly, just seldom do players get there at the right moment. In some battles I try to attack in time with the air groups and take advantage of the damage they do, just have to be careful, cuz if the planes score the killing hit, you sometimes won't get credit. Game is funny sometimes, at times if I get the first hit, even if a plane kills the ship, I get credit, other times vice versa. Maybe code is which hit did the most damage...like if you and planes are attacking and your torps do 51% damage, you get the credit. I suspect so, but have no way of knowing....
Like the battle of Leyte, Kurita was attacked by Halsey with mass planes, seems Oct. 24 before they reached the San Bern. If you get in that lil sea whatever it is early 24 next to the Bern, you'll see mass groups of US planes come through. If you time it to where the TF spawns, you can watch the planes attack way in front of you and when they get to you, TF will have some damage you can take advantage of. You can also watch the battle the next day when the center force attacks the fleeing escort carriers. Another common tactic people use is to take advantage of the few ship battles, like the battle of Savo. Can you change history by taking out the jap BB's before they engage allied forces.... Planes will attack some land targets, seems it was only allied coastal guns, but they don't blow up....Someone modded some oil tanks that can be blown up, but you have to do it. The game basically won't shoot at something that doesn't shoot at it... |

Another instance, before the battle of Philippines Sea, the japs staged their capital ship in Tawi Tawi. In this case in RSRD, all the capital ships just sit there dock for about a week and you can have a field day... Often before a big battle RSRD will spawn the docked TF's at bases. Take Truk, basically always full of capital ships docked where they always are. Sometimes if you go in, you'll see a large TF spawned docked right inside the opening of the northern entrance. He'll despawn them the day they left port and respawn them usually outside of Truk or coming through the southern entry... |
"Someone modded some oil tanks that can be blown up"
That was Traveller. He made some outstanding mods that are in the download section. He made the SOS for the american side do 100% destroyed engines or running out of gas could result in a call for help and be saved by returning to base with a renown deduction. He has some very clever additions to his mods. |

Basically with trav mod the not taking damage ramming is so your sub can sit on the bottom without taking damage, so what's more important to you. The code is backward, you take damage sitting stopped on the ocean floor. However, no one should be ramming ship, you do no damage to anything worth sinking, cept fishing boats and such. However, you can often find yourself flooded and can't control your dive and sink. If you're in shallow enough water, say 300 ft for instance, you can just sit there and repair instead of taking damage. It doesn't take long for damage to start piling up sitting on the ocean floor without trav. It's a more realistic factor to have in your favor, saved me several times.
However, several things about last version of trav I don't like. A few campaign bugs, hate the env and the crew ratings, seems at 80% injury, a crew member goes to zero and does nothing. I think I made this 50%, because at 80% and boat sinking, I wouldn't be in the bunk. I liked trav 2.2 much better, just use that and add some other things I like from last version and my own changes. |
Hi, does anyone know if RSRDC TMO V502 fixes the bug with TMO where u would get a tambor for an upgrade from a gato or balao (I found a bug caused by RSRDC V502 overwriting the TMO small patch. For more info come here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=217634). Also, does RSRDC model the U.S. carrier raids from January to May,1942?
