Russian Typhoon Pics
Board a rusty Russian Typhoon...
http://ru-submarine.livejournal.com/17486.html?nojs=1 One ping only, Vassily! |
I never expected to see a swimming pool inside a submarine!:o
|
IIRC there was a documentary about this on Brit tv a couple of years ago...warts and all.
Interesting. |
I think the Oscar IIs have a sauna on them as well, not sure though.
|
This information just coming in today. I wondered how many Typhoon's were left, because I heard they were going to keep two of them.
No more Typhoons ... should we trust them? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...submarine.html Quote:

Typhoons are outdated, the last two were only kept as missile testing platforms really. The Delta IVs and the Boreis are the main SSBNs in the Russian fleet now. I imagine the Delta IIIs that are in the fleet will probably be going too as more Boreis come on line, but the Deltas are a bit cheaper to maintain than the collossal Typhoons.
I would hope that one Typhoon would be preserved in a park or something, but I don't think that'll happen. There was idle talk of one being used as a cargo vessel years ago, but that fell through. |
No chrome plating, icy blue lights, or red leather settees?
Fake. |
Well there is one last Typhoon in Russian Fleet - that is used for missile testing, the bulk of deterence duties is on the 667BDRs and BDRMs. The future of Russian Navy is with the project 955 SSBNs, which is replacing the BDRs and soon will begin replacing BDRMs.

TK208 is still active as a test platform the other 5 have been decommissioned,
http://youtu.be/dHOMRsHS6no this is a documentary called mission invisible which involves the captain and crew of submarine TK20 of the northern fleet http://youtu.be/sdYbii9dAYU This is a documentary about the demolition of a typhoon think this one is TK17 but not too sure As for on board facilities for the crews, the largest submarines Oscar II and Typhoon have full rest areas, sauna pool and smoking rooms. the typhoons have had their day the youngest boat (TK20) is over 25 years old so its time to say good bye to them and let the borei's take over. |
