Acker Bilk Dies
Not his greatest fan but I did admire a lot of his music.

My mom had at least one of his albums when I was a teenager. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have know who he was.

I remember Acker Bilk mainly from my childhood and mainly because I had seen his LPs in music stores in San Francisco. Jazz music, of all types, was very, very big in San Francisco and I also heard a few of his recordings on the radio, There was, apparently, a pretty good sized following in the Bay area judging by the number of LPs available...
It was a good indicator of a performer's talents when they had the reach to affect listeners in countries overseas in the 50s and 60s, in a very much pre-internet, pre-music video era... RIP, Mr. Bilk, and don't let them trade-in your clarinet for a harp... <O> |
