A local news radio station here in Los Angeles had an interview with a defense attorney for the Marine in which the attorney said he, the attorney, had gone down to the particular turnoff the Marine had become trapped in and noted there was no signage indicating neither the proper route to the US side nor the exact location of the border. Added to this was the fact there was no place to turnaround to correct any mistake by a driver. The attorney said the problem has now been corrected by the installation of new signage (by the State of California, I'm guessing) and the building of a turnout on the US side of the border so drivers can reverse direction...
I wonder if the lack of signage and turnabout ability was not something taken advantage of by the Mexican authorities to entrap unwary travelers, sort of like a speed trap?...
I guess the judge made his decision after the bribe, er, um, excuse me, "contribution" cleared the bank...
