JSGME installation
HERE IS HOW TO INSTALL JSGME:
Here is how to install JSGME. 1. Download JSGME from the link in my sig 2. Unzip JSGME to your main Silent Hunter 4 folder...in WINXP it is ...Program Files/Ubisoft/SilentHunter4 3. Run JSGME.exe that was placed in that folder. 4. JSGME will start and a screen will display. 5. IMPORTANT: Now close JSGME. This sets up the proper location for the MODs you want to use. 6. JSGME is now properly installed. Now for your MODs that work with JSGME.... 1. Download the MOD zip file (see Subsim.com and Mod Workshop Room-you will need to register at Subsim). 2. Unzip your selected mod to the MOD folder that JSGME set up in the main directory..... WINXP it is....ProgramFiles/Ubisoft/SilentHunter4/MOD folder. 3. Start JSGME....a new screen will open. 4. On the left side of the JSGME screen will be the list of MODs you have available. 5. Move the MOD you want to the right side of the JSGME screen. JSGME will install it. 6. Close JSGME 7. Start Silent Hunter 4 and your selected MODs will be available. JSGME backs-up your original installation. If you don't like a mod then simply move the MOD back to the left side of the screen and JSGME will uninstall it AND put SH4 back to it's original configuration |

Make sure you have .../SilentHunter4/MODS/<mod_name>/Data not .../SilentHunter4/MODS/<mod_name>/<mod_name>/Data Very common mistake. If your mods aren't working, check that first. |
Anyone with any thoughts or ideas
Ahoy to my fellow submariners...
Can anyone help with a trifling glitch I have with Mr Jones' mod enabler: I run SH4 (1.5) in WINE running on a Linux box - it is working great. Thought it would be a good idea to install JSGME to get some MODs running. I've done everything 'by the book' and can successfully install MODs, but when JSGME closes (exits) it crashes the Windows-window. This obviously doesn't stop the important part (running the game), but I really hate it when stuff breaks - like my hull when 4 destroyers and a dive bomber do a merry dance on my head, when all I did was send a loving kiss (or 4) to one of their carriers. Thank you and fair winds to all. |

To check if the changes it made are valid despite the crash I would find a tool to calculate md5 or sha-1 hashes on the modded files and verify them with the result in the SH4 folder. That doesn't check the order in which they need to be installed though. |
I was not aware that JSGME needed to be run as an administrator.
I have not set mine to run as administrator unless Windows does it automatically. Running Windows 7 home Premium To check that your mods are installed correctly. In TDW’s NewUI go to > Data folder Applications folder JSGME Mod Validator folder Run the application In the Applications folder are some other useful tools. |
Well, when I try to run it as an ordinary user account in Windows 7 it does prompts me with UAC asking for administrative consent. And the game folder is nowhere near the Program Files folder. This wasn't neccesary in earlier versions. Although jscones did advise to do so in the post-XP Windows versions iirc. I do not know what kind of security measure is tripped by it to make this happen.
