Torpedo dud question.
I have the TDW generic patcher mod installed and I have noticed since I installed and activated it my dud torpedo count is pretty high.
I am doing the second mission where you sneak into scapa flow harbor to sink the royal warship. Its speed is zero and its sitting right in front of me. 0 degrees in front its range is about 4800. I fired 4 torpedoes and all four are duds. I don't mind the dud aspect cause it adds to the strategy however is that a little over kill for dud count? And my other question I guess would be is that pretty realistic. 4 duds in a row. And if that is realistic can I expect the dud count to decrease as the war goes on or am I going to need to fire 4 torpedoes at every ship I see in hopes that ONE is not a dud? In the TDW generic pathcer all of the options for torpedoes are enabled. Though I have no idea if they should all be enabled or only some should. |
I just finished the same mission and had 2 good torps from 2 . You were just unlucky . I used impact though .

Last night with same TDW patch and scapa, 6 torpedos fired 2 duds with a combo of impact and magnetic. Angle was around 75 degrees or so. I find with this patch that it becomes critical in the early period to get as close to 90 percent aspect as possible. One thing is that setting the torp to impact the bottom of the hull means the curve of it can seem to more easily deflect or cause a dud than an ideal flat impact.
As time goes on it seems to get way better with the number of duds. Or its just the little perk of reducing duds. Well if no mods that mess about with that. But certainly have fire huge spreads of torps with all or more of them being duds. Still....not as bad as US torps in early ww2. |
